Where did the distributor (Octagon CSI, I believe) find those two Aussies announcing the Australia-Uruguay match (aired on GolTV)?
Those two Aussies were rooting for the Socceroos throughout the game.
The analyst, in particular, was the biggest cheerleader of them all.
I thought I was watching Sky Sports Fanzone instead of what was supposed to be an international feed.

Why were you watching it if it wasn't important for the Honda Player of the Year voting? I thought you only watched matches that were meaningful for that award.

There was probably universal homerism from every English-speaking country in butt-smooching support of Australia. I don't really get it. I wasn't cheering for one team or the other, but I don't understand why everyone loves Australia so much.

obviously it was the ozz feed... the had a good pbp man and good color guy as well as a man on the pitch... they were rooting for the roos.. but you really cant say they were biased.. i thought they did well... you can imagine their excitement ..lord they havent been there since 1974...

Cantona,
I couldn't agree with you more. Yes, they were rooting for Australia, but I didn't think they were biased towards them. Their match commentary didn't take only one side when discussing the severity of a tackle, quality of a pass or play, etc.
Sure, impartial is usually better, but given that the GolTV in-studio guys are impartial but unbearable, I was more than happy to listen to the "Aussie homers."

I don’t get the fetish against homerism. If the crew who announcing are fair and objective and their audience are Australia, What is the problem? I bet the Uruguain announcing crew where homers too.

I loved these guys. Way better than any announcers GolTV would have used. It really made me pull a little bit more for the Aussies, hearing the emotion of the announcers towards the end. That maybe something GolTV might regret, isn't the owner Uruguayan? Tough day around the network today maybe?
These Aussies weren't over the top like Jack Edwards in '02, but they were the perfect type of homers. I loved it.

Interestingly enough the first leg was the same but from the other perspective. For example, the announcers mentioned;
1. That the Australian players all play in the 2nd or 3rd divisions of their respective leagues.
2. Shwarzer is a weak goalie who instills no confidence in his defense
3. The return leg in Australia has no home field advantage other than the travle issue becasue Australians don't really care about football and the stadium will be quiet with no atmosphere
I was surprised to hear these remarks - the announcers must have been Uruguayan. Seems like the return leg was just as bad but from the other perpective...
