Mufflers are overrated. Put your $ towards something useful. Get flames painted on your car.

Its a toss up..I have used both in the past without any issues. Midas was used resent on an 96 Honda Civic of mine price was ok and it was done within 30-40mins. I know I did (kinda) have an issue with meinke, but not really their fault. They had to delay the fix because they might of had to order a part for my old 79 Mercedes-Benz. They found it at another meinke across town so the delay was not that bad. You can call ahead for a basic estimite..give your car model and year..advise you are looking for just a muffler. If your other pipes are bad or need replaced...make sure you check under your car before you go to see if you have rusted out pipes or if you can check the connection to the motor as well to see if that is in anyway bad..Look for holes..bad rust..connection points from pipes to muff..and motor to pipes..Somtimes the muff is ok..its just a broken connection and that can be cheaper to fix then getting a new muff.. Thats where they will get you.
How old is your car and what is the issue?

Midas will attempt to separate a good portion of money from your wallet. Stay clear of Midas. If your only other option is Meinke then go with them.
Not too sure about NJ, but here in Los Angeles I head towards the inner city. There are certain streets where you can find a muffler shop on almost every corner.
Quality jobs at reasonable rates.

I agree. I'm indifferent to either. I think the key is knowing enough to see what is wrong and what's not. If you have a rusted connection point, you can just get that stuff replaced and wait on the muffler. It'll be cheaper and who knows. The muffler may last another 20k and by then you may have gotten rid of that car.

Just don't overdo it when it comes to just replacing the connection and not the muffler. You just never know when the muffler itself will fall apart and break off. Say, while driving on the highway... :( :p

oh, that's why it's good to always carry a metal coat hanger. ;)
