I'm surprised nobody has started a thread on this yet.
On the biggest college football day of the year, also replete with NHL and NBA action, TWO (2) plays from yesterday's EPL action made top 10 plays. The anchor even noted that Arsenal was defending champs, and were #1 this year to Chelsea's #2.
I was completely shocked. It's one thing when ESPN shows Champions League action. It's a bigger competition, and an ESPN property. But to show league action?!?!?! And from a quasi-competitor's league, FSW.
Wow.
I hope this thread isn't lumped in with the "ho hum, big deal" types. I think showing 2 highlights on a day like today, and from a non-ESPN property, is something that needs 'splainin'.

I didn't see the Top Plays yesterday. That's very good news though.

Geez. They must have been drunk.
That can be the only explanation.

That is pretty amazing. Which two plays?
If one was Arsenal, it must have been the Van Brocnkhorst goal? The Gunners' other two goals were flukes.

One was a Chelsea goal scored against Arsenal, the other was a Man U goal (Scholes, I think) against Sunderland. The Chelsea goal they showed was a corner to the far post which was headed back to the middle and put in from there.

i watched the 11pm sportscenter and they have the Scholes goal #6 and it should have been #1 i think even the anchors who i know don't care about soccer (espn is on all the time on my tv.) were impressed by that goal. it was an awesome touch.

They were still REALLY liquored up. Of course, I encourage that sort of thing.

I'm beginning to think that the Premiership is getting a following in the US. Thanks to Murdoch's FSW of course.
Funny thing about Murdoch and his company is that their news rag the NY Post, totally ignores soccer. Yet his FSW is the greatest soccer channel. FSW is building appreciation for the sport. Maybe some of it will rub off on MLS.
I wonder if he had a hand in getting Australia the WC slot?

Either that or we've turned the corner. The hate mail campaign targeting Deford, Lupica and Kornheiser has finally paid off.

Actually I do see soccer fairly frequently on such "top plays" types of things. I'd imagine it has to do with increasing access to soccer broadcasting and a desire to throw in something besides basketball and hockey (or just baseball in summer) on evenings when those are the only sports going (supposedly). And soccer does produce a lot of plays that are going to appear spectacular to almost anyone. It hardly qualifies as coverage, but it's nice to see and seems to be increasing.
