Leave it to that tricky *&*( to arrange to be alphabetically first. ;)
I, however, must admit I never understand the reluctance to consider Adu for the USMNT on these boards ( I do understand the reluctance in reality, but they're different things). He's a heck of a load of potential, and while people can make arguments that he hasn't realized much of it yet, he does have a better upside than most. Why wouldn't we want to nurture that?

I think you've been out of America to long. with a hihgly hyped player there is no middle ground for the masses. you either love him or hate. Nothing in between.

this is similar that with Landon...either people love him or hate him:)
but the interesting is that mostly people here discuss about both..
it is a sign that everyone think of Freddy:)

I don't love or hate Freddy, I just want to see him do well. The USMNT needs a top goal scorer, and if he can develop into that, then I would love him.
As far as Landon goes I love him AND hate him. It just depends on which kit he has on. :)

I guess the post was meant to be more of a WTF. All other players on the page, I believe, have played in at least one full USMNT match, while Adu hasn't. So, why is he on there?

Yes, but they've played for the full USMNT, not just U-whatever.

Rolfe isn't in the pool. Who had more caps in 2005? Close this thing before it gets 300+ posts.

That's because this hasn't been updated since August 2005 (see note above player list). Wasn't meant to be a 300+ post thread. Just was very strange to see someone's name listed who hasn't even been invited to a camp yet, especially since that person is Mr. Adu. :D

There is the misconception that in the states you have to hate or love a player.
As for me, I want Freddy Adu to succeed. I want him to reach his potential because I've seen flashes of stuff from him that I really like and think he could really be a good one. Does that make me a lover?
At the same time, I see a Freddy Adu that isn't a regular starter for his club, can be knocked off the ball easily at times, has had a tendency to flop/whine. I am not sure he's good enough to be playing for the national team right now. Does that make me a hater?
My opinion is that the National Team isn't there to develop anyone. Its for the players that have already developed into the best options for your country.
You don't give a guy caps because or potential - only for current ability.
Bottom lines.
Praising a good performance or season doesn't make you a lover.
Criticising poor performance doesn't make you a hater.

you don't count. You have a fully functioning brain :)
I have been waffling on the development issue by the way. right now, I beliebe that you do need to develop certain things at the national team level. thats why you bring in a guy like Benny Feilhaber into a week long match build up, but not play him/ at least I think so.

Ok, you made me laugh big time on that one. I'd rep you for it but apparently I have to spread it around - so come on.... someone else say something worthy!

I can understand this too.
Even in my "fully functioning brain" I realize there is a time to bring in someone to see how they fit/react.
Saying you don't develop players with the national team I meant more along the lines of... "So and so had a 3 goal game last night.... we must cap him now! (never minding that it came against Chivas USA :D )
Bruce Arena could develop him into a great player!" That's backwards to me as i think being on the national team is the highest honor/privilege a soccer player can attain and not a means to an end.

THAT I agree with.
