i usually call it by it's name like "coke" or "pepsi" or "royal crown cola" or i'll say "dark" or "brown" followed by "not diet"
if it's crush or sunkist i call it "orange"
if it's sprite or 7 up i call it "clear"
sometimes i just say beverage and then distinguish as needed

In the midwest it's spelled "pop" but pronounced "pap" (as in "smear," very unappetizing).
In North Carolina, all sweet carbonated beverages may occasionally be called "coke" except Coca Cola which is called "co-cola". Then there's always Nehi, which is called by name (grape or awrinj). And Pepsi is referred to as "that pepsi ************".
When I worked construction in Fayetteville during summers off from college, there was a whole group of carpenters who said "soda". I tend to say that, too.

I knew a kid from Alabama and when you go to his place, first thing he'd ask is "Do y'all want coke?" You say yes and he'd ask "What kind?"
A kid from Colorado called it "pap". We grilled him mercilessly for his cardinal sin.
I just say "soft drink" though I don't drink carbonated beverage any more.

Where I'm from (Essex County, Massachusetts), we called it "tonic" as in; Can I have an orange tonic?

It's pop, kids. Even if it's brewed. :)
Anything else sounds affected or ignorant. ;)
At least that's the Middle America view.

I just go to the bar and say "Gimme a beer". A, lo, I get beer. Amazing!

A soda has ice cream in it. A pop doesn't, nor does a coke (of any variety). Case closed.

Soda.
As in 'soda water', 'club soda'. Just add that goopy caramelzaion and other junk and you got your variety of flavors.
Just curious... what is the origin of calling it 'pop'? The noise the cap makes? Heard it called 'fizz' too.
