If memory serves (and it very well may not!) the only back-to-back Winner is Brazil – Pele inspired '58 and '62 yes?
As LUCK figures into all major tournaments, I just don't see them repeating that feat. So, despite their depth (which borders on the absurd) their history (5 stars on the jersey) the notion that it is a foregone conclusion that they'll be in the final, and the fact that they're not listed as a choice on the poll I'm going with them.
Italy won back to back World Cups in '34 and '38. ;)

I voted Argentina.
Probably the most skilled of the bunch, but that
team has no identity, no core, no real leader. And
its ability to defend is very doubtful, given the rash
way the coach has them playing . . . .
Argentina, by the way, haven't made the semis of
a World Cup since 1990. Curious to see if, without
Maradona, they can reach those lofty heights again.

I agree they are a pretty skilled team but without "la mano de dios" (god's hand) i doubt they will win or get very far in a WC anytime soon.

I love these type of threads - everyone sits there and slams England fans for being cocky, arrogant, expecting victory etc and yet they fail to actually notice the comments from the English themselves who are far from optimistic with only one poster saying we could get to the semis and only then if Rooney is fit.
All the others have said QF at best and have also posted a link to a poll that was run on the English NT forum where the most popular choice was, strangely enough, also a QF finish. But noooooo - the English are the cocky fans who are sure they are going to win the whole shooting match according to the majority on here
And you know what will piss me off the most - come next summer and say we do actually manage to get to the QF's (where we will, as usual, go out in a blaze of glory playing with 9 men against Argentina who scored 5 goals with handballs and yet we still take them to penalties) you know what the vultures on these boards will say? Yup - that the England fans were all proclaiming that we would win the tournament before it started and that we're arrogant with absurd expectations.

erm .. yeah .. that 3-2 win over Argentina showed that England will choke ... oh ... erm ... sorry ... win when needed. Scotland are having a great run this time ....
Yup, nice to see England move to the final 16.....
What, it was just a Friendly???? No way, not based on the reaction of England tabloids/posters here.
France will be a bigger flop as their golden age of players have now grown old, but England will be a bigger flop based on expectations. For England supporters, it's WC winner or bust. They just don't have the team to back it up.

After reading this post, I can't believe that people really think the English fans are arrogant pric*s. Not like he takes the piss talking about how most of the fans on the England NT side are typical whining monkeys, predicting an early exit. Then, to just show his complete blindness, he states England will only go out b/c of cheating, both from the refs and the opponents.
Eat another sandwich, you stupid prawn. England aren't good enough to win, no matter how many mindless posters you have.

Yeah that guy Richardson for Enland is fast and has good posession
now about Brazil me being a Mexican fan the only guy on Brazil that creates a
huge scare is Adriano the guy is deadly he just creates patterns that he's always lose on the outer corners and can even set the crosses up. I think Argentina will get to the second round but no further they to overconfedent
I believe Croatia will make it to the finals this world cup and for the usa they will get to the second round .

Brazil and it isn't much of a debate.
I think England has a steller squad, but the coaching is subpar at best and until someone actually beats Brazil in the WCF then they are the best.

Brazil has always appeared to be the strongest team, but this time they do look almost undefeatable. They have the best players on all positions. I believe they will be the disappointment, because southamerican teams simply don´t win european cups. They will lose to some team they completely underestimate. It will not be a great battle as in Brazil-Italy (2:3) in ´82. It will be the kind of game where brazil simply won´t put on an effort. Maybe against Poland or Ukraine. A late goal and no time for brazil to make up for it. Something like that. Arrogance and media-hype will make them the dissappointment. If this doesn´t work, they´ll probably win again.

Dida is not a "better" keeper then robinson.
i take the England Centrebacks and a fit G Nelvile and Ashly Cole at left/right back over the brazilians
Lampard / gerrard /,Beckham /Rooney / Owen / J Cole / SWP , as indivual players, can all hold there own to the brazilian options
the only difference is brazil having a quality DM in emerson or giberto

Thanks for proving my point....
So go on then, there's a number of English fans who've posted on this thread - I'm sure you'll be able to quote where each and every one of us predicts our impending victory.
