I voted Italy in the poll - call it a hunch - They're a strong squad, of course, but there's always a team that fails to play to its potential. I'm going with Italy.
I agree with others here who put US in this list. I'll back the red, white and blue as far as we go, but I honestly don't think we deserve the #7 ranking. I think we'll be lucky to survive group stage and exit early in the knockout. Just too many injuries and too many marginal, inconsistent players in the roster. We're going to shuffling the squad right up to the start if not throughout the tourney.

Why list Spain as a potential flopper? They're always a disappointment.
I said Germany because their hurting for players but don't be surprised about Spain despite their start for the qualifiers their still a team to be reckon with!

I think Holland will flop because I think they are playing too much into the rankings. The reality check will hit them and they won't be able to bounce back.

How do you know?
The last time the US faced Germany in the WC it was a 1-0 loss for us in a game that we played very even with them and really outplayed them for strecthes of the match. Hell if a couple of calls had gone the right way who knows?
As for Brazil, last time we played them in a WC we lost 1-0. In the knockout round. So I fail to see how your statement holds true.
I have no idea how well the US will do in Germany. No one does and it is pointless to really discuss until we know what group they will be in.
Yes Yes very true I do not really know how they will react at all but i state that fact by watching how much Germany has grown and even Brazil and Argentina have grown a lot in recent years and of course U.S. has probably done biggest the growth in the world but I just have that feeling because U.S. is still the baby in the World Cup, not that they play bad at all just that they do not have a history of doing that awsome in the WC, so put one and one together I really do not feel they will be able to handle them. No disrespect at all im rooting for them too but as a fan of them thats just the way I feel but how you said we wil not know till we know. but hoping for the BEST!!!

Also SCARECROW this is what this thread is discussing, Who will flop?? and i say U.S. so it does have a point to discuss before the groups are picked. This whole thread is predicting so............... :D

Well, the thing is...Spain, as it pains me to say, because I root for them, can't really be considered a power, because they traditionally fail to live up to expectations. Euro 1964 champions, and their best showing at a World Cup was fourth in 1950. Not exactly dominance.
Recently:
2002 - QFs
1998 - group round
1994 - QFs
1990 - second round
Spain just doesn't have the history to be considered a "major power".

Between France & Spain difficult to say.
I voted Spain for the flop regularity since 1982

England are not a major power!
but as they are on this list i'll vote them
There fans are the most delusional, arrogant and cocky in world soccer, they go on as if they're this "big team", "big nation" when reality is there in the same level as Ireland, Denmark, Poland etc...
they haven't won anything 39 years, not even reached a final in anything. They always choke yet there media, fans will hype them up to full max going on about 1966 bla bla bla, how many world class players they've got bla bla bla. Plus every time they lose they look for excuses,
i.e in 1998 it was "Beckham got sent off"
in 2002 it was "we need a winter break bla bla bla"
in 2004 it was "Sven's fault bla bla bla" "the ref cost us bla bla bla"
when reality is they are just not good enough, surely it's telling something if they haven't won anything for 39 years? They'll look for an excuse again in 2006
Let England build themselfs up. It will be much sweeter when they crash down to earth :)

yes,the soccer began in England. So,they have the reason to be proud. But it's the past. They cannot be cocky any more. There are many teams better than England.
This year ,the lineup of England is very strong.I think they can join 1/4 turn.

If memory serves (and it very well may not!) the only back-to-back Winner is Brazil – Pele inspired '58 and '62 yes?
As LUCK figures into all major tournaments, I just don't see them repeating that feat. So, despite their depth (which borders on the absurd) their history (5 stars on the jersey) the notion that it is a foregone conclusion that they'll be in the final, and the fact that they're not listed as a choice on the poll I'm going with them.

Lippi is the best of 'em all in this tourney IMHO. He won't let the team flop.

i dont think anybody should listen to this foolish person. Coming from an american who supports "galaxy" you are obviously retarded
if you watched those matches you would of seen that they were extremely close games, and that was the difference between winning and loosing. Apart from ronaldinos semi-fluke freekick.
I think we have got a big tournment complex, where we panic defend and just keep booting the ball up the pitch to the other team. drawing then going out on penaltys. if we can stop doing that we could do pretty well

Because they always are a disappointment. They always underachieve, and based on the was the question was posed, that is how I voted. My second choice would be Germany, because I think they overachieved in Japan/Korea.
