erm .. yeah .. that 3-2 win over Argentina showed that England will choke ... oh ... erm ... sorry ... win when needed. Scotland are having a great run this time ....

yup, England comes up big time against teams like Northern Ireland and Denmark... o wait...

That being said the WC is being played on European soil, so England should make the quarterfinals... France won't make it out of the group stage.

For me, France and/or England..............the expectations are too high in their respective countries.

I think England will flop, they never win anything but they always build themselves up purely on trash talk from their press and their fans.

Remarks like this make me want to double check which country I'm living in, because nobody I've ever met has these attitudes you describe. In general the people I know are hopeful but not particularly confident, and certainly not expecting to take home the trophy. The media either worships the team or slaughters them, nothing in between, but even the England players (a group not traditionally known for their intelligence) have figured out not to trust the media by now.

I think you're relying on the English media to accurately portray the mood of the entire country - which is ironically very similar to what you accuse us of doing, building up our expectations because of the media.

England will choke as they always do. Holland is also going to fail in a HUGE way.

Well that's why they play the games right? Somebody will flop, someone will dazzle, and in the end it will be Brazil v someone else. :D

Germany will have a very hard tournament. If they make it past the group stage they'll be lucky. Home advantage or not. They've had so little quality preparation and haven't beaten a power in some time. I don't see England doing that well either although I would love them to do well even though I'm Welsh! Argentina aren't going to have 2 flop World Cups in a row. I don't think Italy or France will have much of an impact either. I don't think it will be a WC with the same level of underdog surprises as 2002 but there'll be a few.

Exactly! There is only one major power! Brazil! Everything else is up for grabs.

I hate to say it, but the U.S... hope they prove me wrong

I actually think France will do good, they still have a great team and I'm pretty sure they'll make up for 2002... england, well, idk... :D

I agree i want the U.S. to prove you wrong but the truth is that they think they are so big now because they have beat Mexico a couple of times but the truth is that that they will not be able to handle the pressure against Brazil, Germany, Argentina ya know??

How do you know?
The last time the US faced Germany in the WC it was a 1-0 loss for us in a game that we played very even with them and really outplayed them for strecthes of the match. Hell if a couple of calls had gone the right way who knows?

As for Brazil, last time we played them in a WC we lost 1-0. In the knockout round. So I fail to see how your statement holds true.

I have no idea how well the US will do in Germany. No one does and it is pointless to really discuss until we know what group they will be in.

I'm surprised you lads consider England as a future flop. and others are nowhere close!

it's bloody Italy or Spain who'll underachieve. and Holland is a potential flop, too.

Italy will just like they did in 2002-2004

England will not win it, but I fancy us getting as far as the semi-finals.

Lose Rooney, however, and we'll do nowt.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE a flop ? for some teams not reaching the Final will be a FLOP, for the others it will be remarkable achivement.

Better question would be, which major power will fail to make it out of its group

and i will pick Argentina
