I just got an ipod shuffle and have a mac at home and a pc at work.
If I used the pc to load my songs onto the shuffle, can I connect it to the mac as well ? When I tried to plug the ipod into the mac, i was asked if I wanted to replace the songs on the shuffle with what was on iTunes on the Mac. I said 'no' and then could not locate the shuffle in itunes at all after that.
I guess another way of asking this is, Are ipods dedicated to one computer only ? Or is it possible to use multiple machines for stocking the same ipod ?
I did a quick search for the answer to this but couldn't find one, any replies are appreciated.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that an iPod formatted for Windows won't be recognized by a Mac and vice versa. I use my iPod on both my work and home machines, but they're both PCs.
If I were you, I'd give Apple a call and see if you can use the same iPod on both a PC and a Mac.

Mike's correct, if it's formatted for the PC you would have to format it for the Mac to use it on a Mac.

Thanks, guys.
Does anyone know if it's the same the other way around ? Can a mac-formatted ipod work on a pc ? I know that macs tend to be more flexible in this regard.

I don't think you can use two computers to load one ipod can you?

See above. I'm pretty sure the answer is no. It's a Mac formatted iPod or it's a PC formatted iPod.

I do all the time. I have an external USB hard drive that contains my iTunes library. I have iTunes setup to not automatically update the iPod. I keep my work PC and my home PC libraries in synch with each other by making sure the "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" are the same on both machines. I just copy the files from my My Documents\My Music\iTunes directories from whichever machine has the latest version.

There may be problems if it is formatted for a Mac and you try to use it on a PC, but there should be no problems if it is formatted for PC and you use it on a Mac.

What he said. PC format is fine on Mac, but Mac format won't work with your PC. BUT, if you don't associate the already formated iPod on the second machine, you can't do anything with it. The only way I know is to do what Mike said, sync the iTunes libraries on both machines. OR use another method of loading the iPod on each machine to bypass iTunes. I use the ml_pod pluggin for Winamp with my Shuffle flawlessly, then load on my buddy's Powerbook using whatever 3rd party software he uses ( forget the name, I'm not a Mac guy)
