Hey, im sure this has come up on these boards already, but what have the Lynx said about the MLS expansion. From what I have picked up there has been hardly any contact between Maple Leaf and the Lynx, and if thats the case thats pretty messed up, moving in on there turf. Will the Lynx even be able to survive, unfortunitly i can imagine they can both thrive, and this would mean a death toll for them. Thats a shame, plus that puts a dent into the a-leagues canadian plans, no more Toronto-Montreal games.

I am sure the Lynx were well aware of what it took to get into MLS. Gotta pay to play.

Oh i agree that they have had plenty of years to take this step themselves, but maybe its just me but i think its a pretty big deal that they are directly putting out of commishion another soccer club, at the very least there should have been some negotiations so that it can be done smoothly, i just feel bad for the Lynx i suppose

Well first the lynx were vehemently against MLS coming to town. Now however, the Lynx are talking to the Leafs, and have agreed to play in the new stadium alongside the MLS team. So, clearly there is dialogue. It would be good if the Lynx are able to survive, however i found it a bit rich of them to oppose MLS in the Toronto while consistently serving up a very poor porduct year after year. If they had been able to put a quality product out like Vancouver and Montreal, I'm sure there would not have been this big push for MLS. They dug their own grave quite frankly.

You have to know a few things about the Lynx. They have no relations with any media here in the city. They do not spend 1.00 on any type of adds in paper or in media.
They have put a poor team on the fields and have sold every decent player they get to Montreal.
They play in 40 year old dump of a stadium.
The owners of this team have no clue. They are a minor League team period.
If they want to try and survive fine. But MLSE owes them nothing.

Ill be going next season, buy seasons for sure. In 2007, when MLS comes Ill check out a couple Lynx games... if there still around!
But I am rooting for Jaime Dodds to be on the Toronto MLS team!

While credit goes to the Lynx ownership for keeping them going for as long as they have, outside of one good play-off year (maybe five years ago), the only really good team they had was year one when they had Onstad in goal and Dero w Paul Stalteri up front. What a combination they were.
Since then (for the most part), there have been some decent players but so little was done to bring the team along, many of us who were regulars simply stopped going. They do have some dedicated fans here but for the masses, the Lynx were simply not on the map. This year, a horrible season and a last place finish was the last straw for many IMO.
They did talk to the media about how offended they were that nobody spoke to them about MLS but the truth is that there was no way in the world they could have made the jump. They are in a different universe. Kerfoot and Saputo can pull it off. The Hartrell's were not going to pull it off.
As I said, credit to them for keeping it alive but under the stewardship, the team never thrived nor even looked like it would thrive. They survived and that's the best that can be said about the Lynx.
As for the future, good luck to them. If they can be the MLSE reserve squad, great. I'll be happy to see that happen.

I know I'm not a Lynx fan, but based on the posts I've read on the Voyagers forums, there is absolutely no love lost for the Lynx. Most of the Lynx fans, based on what I've been reading, are more than ready for Toronto MLS to get started up and rid themselves of the Lynx. Their current supporters club is even organizing get togethers and meetings and re-recruiting to get ready for the jump to MLS in '07.

I'm in the same boat as Zac. MLS in Toronto is my first choice, but if there is no conflict between dates I'll try and make it out to as many Lynx games as possible. Theres never too much footy is there :D

Maybe, just maybe, he'll play alongside his brother if Rhian leaves Killie (perish the thought). :D
There's something that may make your day if you're a Dodds fan.

You need not worry about conflicts.
MLS doesn't schedule matches at 11am on a Wednesday afternoon.

Ironically, the Lynx best attended matches.

Assuming having USL D1 and MLS in the same city won't work longterm in Toronto, would the Hartrell's move the Lynx to Hamilton or Ottawa (or elsewhere) to keep the club afloat in D1? Do they even care? Or would they consider selling to someone who might move them? Maybe Stronach since he stepped down from his post in Vienna... ;)

At the moment, it seems that the Hartrell's want to keep the team in Toronto and have it play out of the new stadium at the CNE.
Apparently, Bruno wanted to meet with the powers that be at MLSE to discuss some sort of financial arrangement for the team, in effect, acting as a farm/reserve team.
Can this happen? Who knows but it all sounds very far fetched to me.

That thought had crossed my mind as well. He was linked with MLS expansion in Cleveland at one point FWIW. There are major problems in the auto sector right now, however, so I suspect Frank Stronach has bigger fish to fry than pro soccer at the moment.
