Any other Ipod owners having problems after downloading the newest version of iTunes?
I've been trying Apple's discussion website, but surprise, surprise, they're upgrading it and you can't post questions for the time being.
I'm getting the message:
iTunes.exe- corrupt file
The file or directory \Ipod_control\iTunes\iTunes Control is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility.
And now of course the player is whacked. I select a song and it skips ahead 4 songs. Hopefully, this is a software problem. I'm starting to think Ipod was not the way to go.

I'm using iTunes 6.0.1.3 (for Windows) and haven't had any problems with it at all.

Apparently, I can play a song on the pc off my iTunes library. But, the player is dysfunctional. I'm thinking it's a hardware issue, except for the software error message.

Weren't there initially some bugs with the new version on Windows? I thought one of these threads mentioned something.

Have you called Apple?

I don't know. I have iTunes setup to automatically check for the latest version. If the dialog box pops up asking me if I want to download it, I always click the "yes" button. :)

Can you just reformat your ipod?
Yes, but you have to buy additional hardware.

Can you just reformat your ipod?
Just tried it, I pressed the menu and center button until the Apple logo showed up. But, it didn't erase my music. So, I guess it didn't reformat?
I'll wait a day or two until their website is back, then it looks like i'll be requesting service. I just sent it in last month for a new clickwheel after it got some rain on it and died. It was working fine until this latest hickup.
Thanks everyone for the responses.

Okay, well I don't know what the deal with iTunes is but I might be able to help with the iPod.
in your iPod, go to Settings>About and look and see what version you are using (3.0.1, 3.0.2, 3.1, etc.)
If you're on either 3.0.1 or 3.0.2, you probably have a flawed, outdated version that wasn't fixed till mid October. If that's the case, go to apple.com and click on the iPod + iTunes tab at the top of the screen. Then at the bottom left of the screen, there should be a little link that reads "Download the latest iPod software." Click that link, follow the directions there, and download the latest iPod Updater. This very well may fix your iPod problem.
(Oh, once you update your iPod, you will have to relaod everything from your computer as this should reset the iPod completely.)

I have version 3.1
Is that the latest?
I'll fool around with this another day or two.
Then hopefully the warranty covers another service.

Got it. Had to massage the problem. Update my Windows XP. Get the newest Ipod Updater program. Restore the Ipod.
Quite frankly, what a pain in the ass.
