What I got out of this game was Scotland was better dribblers than I thought. You are also a fiesty (not dirty) bunch, but that didn't suprise me given your history. Overall you guys outplayed us but not by much. I see a bright future for Scotland. Thanks for some of you, who gave us kind wishes. I think most of us Americans like the Scotts, and Sean Connery (had to bring up his name). And by no means did we think Scotland would be a walkover. I think I speak for most Americans by saying we respect Scotland as a soccer nation, and probably just a tier below England, but just as good as Ireland. I think it's us trying to find respect in men's soccer. Anyway, maybe we'll get to play England in the WC, and hopefully will upset them again with you guys cheering for us.

My friend Waldo from american board!
I´m suprised of your words here. I appreciate that you had respect of scottisch soccer as an American. You know that I´m fan of USMNT and Germany of course. But I did watch the game and I have to say that Scotland dominated mostly of the game. So my respect for scottisch team as well. Well if Donovan had played, maybe he would have scored. But he was not there. Good performance of Scotland.!

Scotland dominated? Huh. Shots 13-3, US. Corners 4-2, US. An even match in my eyes, but the stats present a challenge to any who would claim the home side dominant.
Some interesting quotes from players and coaches of the USMNT:

It's a pity the vast majority of the US ones were either well wide or harmless...

most of those american shots were long range efforts tho that never even looked like troubling gordon.
with the exception of the penalty, the only other time the states got close to scoring was from a free kick that was well saved.
otherwise, i would say after the first 15-20 minutes scotland dominated without really creating anything themselves.

I was a little disappointed by Scotland's performance--really should have done better against such a weak mf and attack. It was pretty silly asking O'Connor to do much up there alone. Anyway, Brown showed lots of potential, I look forward to seeing more of him.

I can think of four shots the US had that were either well saved, in the back of the net, or very close to.
1)The PK
2)Cherundolo's free kick in the first 10 minutes that was well-saved
3)Wolff missing the near post by about a foot in the dying moments of the 1st half (and the keeper was beaten...he should have scored)
4)Spector's rasper from 25 yards in the last 10 or so, which forced a good save.
That's one more than Scotland's total shots. Not to mention the two free-headers Ching blew on set pieces. The guy should score and instead he doesn't even put it on frame. Not sure why he continues to get call-ups...but I digress.
Scotland dominated the last 25 minutes of the first half, no doubt. They didn't dominate the second. I thought the second was pretty even. Scotland had one good shot on goal (in which my favorite person...Mr. Ching decide to suck at the one thing he's supposedly good at...winning balls, but I'm digressing again) which resulted in a goal and a good chance on the offside call (which was juuuust offsides)...that's it.
Side note: Of the 7 goals the US allowed in Korea, do you know how many of them came from set pieces? 5 and 1 was an OG. Apparently we still haven't learned how to defend them. Just a tidbit of info about the US team if you want to impress your friends... :)

Totally agree. No idea what Walter was playing at playing O'Conner alone.

Scotlands negative tactics stem from the berti days I suppose. Walter has been keen on producing stability and renewing confidence. We were rolled over too easily by too many teams.
Playing one up front at home will not do for the euro qualifiers however and I would be amazed if we are anything other than more adventurous against switzerland in march.
I rarely see scotland these days and missed this match but look forward to better days for scotland which I can watch in the future.
