Just got GolTV Canada this week (free preview for a while).

Play by Play guy was passable. Color commentator was absolutely pathetic!

Yeesh.

Mr. Kelly O'Donnell was doing PxP.

Ricardo Ortiz, who usually works on the Spanish side of GolTV, did the analysis on the English side.

O'Donnell did the English PxP of the Spain-Slovakia game as well with Rafael Uncein. Ortiz switched over to the Spanish side for that one.

The switchover caused a relatively long delay between matches, as Spain-Slovakia didn't start airing until around 5:07pm ET.

My favorite part of O'Donnell's PBP was his constant mispronunciation of Harry Kewell's name.

He kept saying KEYwell instead of the normal Kewell (rhymes with school).

Nitpicky I know, but irritating none the less.

So it's pronounced like "cool"? I pronounce it KEYewell ("cule") and I have heard many other people do the same (including people on Sky News and Premiership broadcasts). Not saying you're wrong, just curious now as i've never really heard it pronounced that way.

The color guy was simply awful. I lost track of all the things he said that I thought was utterly absurd. It is hard to believe that there were no other English-language options to do commentary.

I hate to say this, but for me, GolTV is becoming almost unwatchable because of their in-studio commentators. For starters, their voice volume varies way too much. Sometimes it is so quiet they can't be heard, then when something exciting happens, they scream so loud that everyone in my house wants to know what happened. I don't know if that is the fault of the announcers themselves, or a technical issue. Then, the quality of what they say is practically worthless.

It is becoming the case that unless Paul Breene Turner is doing the La Liga game, I just can't watch GolTV.

I agree here... the PBP guy was listenable... the color guy was horrible.. he seemed he was commentating for someone that had never had watched a football match in their life... "goalkeeper moves the ball to the other side.. the reason is so he can waste some time off the clock" ... REALLY? .. this wasnt a WNT match or a MLS match with casual viewers... this was a fringe match that only hardcore footy fans would be interested in... the teach the game commentary must go!

ps. goltv did good on the away leg with the ozzy commentary...

I just got around to watching the Spain - Slovakia first leg (I know, I know, I'm behind!)

Man, those GolTV guys were almost as bad. Especially the color commentator who suggests coaching instructions similar to what I would give to my U8 squad. And could we live without the 10 minute discussion about the importance of away goals?

I really hate to say this, because I longed for this channel for months when it wasn't on DirecTV, but the announcing on GolTV has become practically unbearable.

Teh first leg of the Aus-Uru playoff was unbearable. The guy was even worse than some of the stuff you get on ESPN. He really did act as though the viewers had never seen a game ever.

Teh second leg was great with the Australian commentaters, and I thought the productiion quality was better also.

O'donnell does alot of the South american games on Gol tv so thats why I think he was chosen he does not have a good voice for play by play, I feel that his voice is annoying with that high pitched sound.
