i was looking at the crew boards and they were calling united "the filth". I never heard we had a big rivalry with them, like for instance the SoS. i mean they're of course not my favorite team and i don't like them but its new to me that we have a big rivalry with them.

We had a rivalry of sorts with the Crew back when it was usually a two-horse race for the Eastern Conference. It's been diluted since we've sucked for the last three years, but to be honest, they never won anything during those early years anyway, so it was pretty one-sided.

the columbus rivalry while huge, is not the hegelian death struggle that the SoS war is (btw in hegel's death struggle the one who loses doesn't actually die but becomes a slave to the victor--similar to how the Scum have become our b!tch over time).

columbus fans usually show up at rfk with those puke yellow jerseys--though never with the nerve to stand or sing. the on field rivalry is pretty tense.

personally i feel the most rivalry with Scum and the piece of dog crap that is the Galaxy, but i hate every other team as well, which frankly, i think all united fans should. i hate donovan and that stupid narrow field, i don't even know who plays for colorado but i hate them, dallas sucks as a city and a team, the only time i like the fire is if they play NJ, the meatball is yet another thing to hate about kansas or missouri or wherever the hell they are and the boston team now has hernandez.

I am with you on this.

When the playoffs started, I took a long look at the lineups and realized that I hate every other MLS team. I mean, all of them.

I could never root for another existing MLS team, with the only possible exception being if my hometown of Detroit ever got a team (and even then, they'd run a distant second to United in my heart).

And Crew posters calling DCU filth does not surprise, as ahead of one match last season, the Crew's website had them listed as playing, "The Evil DC United."

"We all laugh at a yellow football team....."

For me it's the MetroPukes followed closely by the CSC. Hate with great hating........

That "other yellow" team is merely a nuisance.

The Crewligans hated DC United because we always knocked them out of the playoffs.

1. SoS - the fans on opposing sides truly hate each other.
2. Galaxy - a consistently good team but we have had some classic matches in the past making it a good rivalry. I don't like them, but not the sort of hatred I have with the scum.
3. Fire - the 98 final made this rivalry. I hate losing to them.
4. Crew - because we always play four times a year and have met in the playoffs many times, I hate losing to them as well.

After that, I don't see any rivalries. I think the first two are the only true rivalries though. The other two are just teams I don't want to lose to in particular.

some corrections here. The Crew ARE the reigning US Cup Champions. They can at least claim their one title since they beat LA this year. Secondly, Crew fans certainly DO come to our hallowed grounds and sing. They swear every other word, acting like typical midwesterners. I was a bit dismayed at comments earlier how BB and SE would rachet up the profanity simply to make themselves heard. Well as one who also has a claim on being the biggest United fan, I would like to see our fans conduct themselves with more dignity, showing why we are the best fans in MLS. The Crew fans are a disgrace by their juvenile actions. The last thing I would want to see is United fans lowering themselves below the level of the Crew fans. Come on folks. Lets hold our heads up high.

Not meant to flame, but have you ever actually sat in the Barra/Nest? Some of the chants and songs we belt out are on the nasty side. But we've been singing them since day one. No one proposed using profanity for the sake of using it. We just don't want a bunch of newbie fans sitting in front of our sections getting all flustered at something that's been going on since DC fielded a team.

Like K said earlier, DCU should look into and think twice before putting family types in front of us so as not to get anyones panties in a bunch. DCU already has a family section. Why don't they put the field level seats in front of them?

I believe it was me who called for a more 'blue' section in this upcoming season. I don't like dumb cursing like chanting in a sing song voice "Bull-sh * t, bull-sh * t", but rather a more focused creativity in generally demeaning the opposition. Always done with a wink as it were.

Well, to point out the obvious, no one here having this conversation has a "right" to the stadium. If you are happy with 14,000 people showing up to games, then so be it. I certainly am not. I think there is room for a lot more people to enjoy a game in the biggest soccer town in the US. I think there are genuine reasons why people do not fill our stadium: not being an MLS or soccer fan is not one of them. While you are correct that putting white linen tables in front of the fans during a "Boca-River superclassico" is not the most brilliant of ideas, I think a little self discipline wouldn't hurt anyone. As my friend said in an earlier posting, lets show the world we have the most clever fans in the world.

Are you seriously suggesting that people stay away from DCU games because of the off-color chants in the Nest and the Barra?

Back to the topic at hand:

I hate the Gals much more than the Metroscars. Much, much more.

Cobi Jones is the personification of all that is evil and wrong with the world.

(And for those among us who might be humor-impaired I feel the need to point out that the above comment was a joke.)

In terms of rivalries, the metros and Gals are easily the biggest rivals. The Fire is in a sense a rivalry but there's more respect going on there- not nearly so bloodthirsty as it were. C-bus and the Revs are not really rivals- they are more measuring sticks to see if we have a good team or not in any particular year. The other western teams are just other MLS teams so far.

It's kinda funny to think how this all translates on these boards.

-The metros board is schitzophrenic. You can find some good info there at times but it's definitely like going behind enemy lines.

- The Gals board is so sterotypical LA that it's a waste of time to try to get much out of it.

- The Fire board is IMO the second best team board (after ours of course) and one can have a reasonable conversation on it, provided you don't talk smack. In that case they are very good at laying you out.

-The C-bus forum is dumb-ass in the extreme. Lots of clueless macho posturing. Stupid, like a little jerk trying to make himself heard. They used to be better, but that was years ago now. Why bother?

- NE is odd. Some good posters and sometimes some good info but it's like the board is less than the summ of it's parts: it doesn't quite click. maybe now that the team is better, the board will work better too.

- Dallas can be a good forum and is in many ways what NE isn't yet. Lots of good info and they can talk a good game too.

- Colorado's forum is too sparse to amount to much.

- KC is also too sparse though they have better overall strength than Colorado's. Some good stuff.

- San Jose's board used to have attendance problems like their team does. Now they have lots of posters, but almost all of them suck. I love the current thread on how they need to get better at various positions without any regard to the cap difficulties they are in. Oblivious.

I've never considered statements of fact abusive -- truth is always the best policy.

Can you make that rhyme?

Back on topic, I think MLS needs more teams to hate.

(sung to On Top of Ole Smokey)

On top of Noel Kenney
All covered with fleas
Came up from behind him
And took out his knees

He gave one more red card
To Marco and me
I turned to Noel Kenney
And took one mean p##

He got up all soaking
Heard the thundering roar
Cause there was ole Marco
Just wi$$ed on him more

Come on, you know it is me. Who else comes up with Christmas melodies and New Years Eve sonets?
Actually, Mr. Kenney is a total disgrace. You can check out the dents in the handrails in section 227 from me pounding my head against them. But I've mended my ways. I now have a Noel Kenney doll to stick pins in for the new year!
