Just thinking about it..what do you think we could get away with and win?

I'd love to see this tried at least once this season

----------------VDS
---------Rio----------Brown
G.Neville--------------------Silvestre
--------------Keane
-----Scholes---------Rooney
Ronaldo----------------------Giggs
----------------RVN

Mmmmm, imagine that! :D Could it work?

What'd be your set of players and formation..remember completely devoted to attack, but hopefully realistic enough for us to win games with.

I honestly don't see what's so terribly bold about that formation/team

It offers Keane little help when the attacking 7! go forward leaving just Rio, Brown and Keane at the back. Very bold in todays game.

Not so much. I'm a Fulham supporter, and, in essence, its some of the same tactics that Fulham applies with decent success (results are just now starting to come - but then again, the talent discrepancy is vast between ManU and Fulham)

-------------Warner
---------Goma-----Bocanegra
Volz--------------------N. Jensen
--------------Diop
-----C Jensen---------L Boa Morte
Malbranque----------------------Radzinski (sucks)
----------------John

It leaves, in essence, Goma, Diop and Bocanegra to deal with the attack (N. Jensen is useless either way)

Not advocating it, its just a very attacking 4-5-1 and has been used to moderate success in the Premiership. I don't think its very bold, and it can actually be quite entertaining.

Depends on who they're playing and where. Even in the Premiership, playing somebody like Sunderland at home you could theroetically play....

.............................Howard
Bardsley...........Silvertre............O'Shea..........Fortune
...........Richardson............Smith
Fletcher...............................................Park
.....................Rossi.............Rooney

and still stand a very good chance of winning. Against real opposition, the lineup you suggested is about as strong as gets.

You have to consider the players I put in. Jensen is far more defenisvely minded then either Scholes or Rooney who both do their best work just outside the penalty area, seeing them behind the front 3 would be exhilerating and with wing assistance, it would be the boldest we've played for years.

I don't think Fulham play their system that bold which is why my one doesn;t look too 'out there' for you, but I think there's a vast difference in what I'd like to see from that and what Fulham deilver using a similar system.

Sure, just tell him we're Portugal in disguise, he'll defend.

Claus Jensen? I'm going to have to mark the box next to "STRONGLY DISAGREE." He tackles worse than Scholes and doesn't even track back or contest balls as well as Rooney.

I don't think Fulham play their system that bold

Fulham, this year, have played the most single-mindedly attacking football I've seen in a very long while. They've completely changed their whole approach.

This would be lethal going forward... Keane will have little help other than Rooney and Gary occasionally (temp. switch to 442 w/ richardson at lb and brown at rb).

Ruud would have boatloads of assists w/ Rooney, Ronaldo and Park to set up. Ronaldo would have the freedom to roam where he pleases and we'd be absolutely lethal on the counter. Makes the most out of our best talent imo...

Richardson=fastest player on pitch gets the ability to use that pace over the length of the field.

Ronaldo=best dribbler, most lethal cutting in from left gets a chance to play high, and narrow at times... when he's wide he'll have the option to cross or cut in, when he cuts in he can finish or pass... more importantly he can't be fouled in the center.

Gary=our best crosser, gets to do more of that.

Rio=best reader of the game, gets to play sweeper w/ 2 partners we'd be impossible to score on and he'd help Keane on offense in midfield too.

Rooney=our best playmaker, gets to do just that... the team goes where he (and Keane) tell it too.. he'll have loads of influence in this set up as the link between midfield and attack while still having more than ample help from Park and Ronaldo.

If we are counting on Keane, why not throw in another player that might come back in a few months, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? I don't know about you all, but I would really love to see him play at least one more game for Utd.

If this is too attacking then throw in Smith for Giggs and play Ronaldo on the left instead of the free ranging role.

Edit: forgot about G Neville, definitely play him instead of Silvestre and switch Brown to the left.

this would work much better with Giggs/Richardson/Neville as the wingbacks... Ronaldo doesn't have the stamina to play wingback and we'll either end up with no width or no defence... guess which one?

Park's got the work rate and stamina, but he'll probably leave us just a bit exposed, which won't be too much of a problem, but w/ Scholes, Rooney and Ronaldo on the field when Park does what he likes to do most, make that run up the middle of the pitch he'll just be crowding things too much.

Ok.. have you seen Scholes try and tackle  Jansen has a good engine and gets back and helps out all game. I'd rather him than Scholes defensively for sure.

Like I said with Fulham it's not the attack I envisage from the line-up I put out. I suppose with our quality things should expectedly look different which is probably why I'd expect us to just be camped in the other half all game bombarding them from every angle with the system I put up whereas Fulham can't really ever expect to do that so your players in that system are more attuned to getting back and helping out. Oh the dream! Just one game Fergs..(maybe 2 or 3... :) )

I thought we all agreed that Rio needs a physical type of defender alongside with him to work well? Unless you're suggesting Keane/Smith would make up for that... or else, it'll be time we'll see Rio brushed away by the big strikers..
