Who do you think was a greater football legend? In terms of what they did on the field? (let's not talk about what they did off the field cause Pele would trash Maradona if we do).

Pele
not because he was the best, but at least he played decent without cheating by using his hands and ruining the idea of football. Maradona was a fat little crackwhore. But good at football

Pele had his ugly streak as well.
I know all of the arguments for both players, having read and participated in most of the various threads on the subject, but I always give the edge to Maradona because he proved himself in a variety of leagues and teams. I don't care about the friendly excuse that most will point to, the simple fact remains that there will always be questions surrounding Pele as a result.

when people jump on the bandwagon saying pele is the greatest has anyone acually scene footage of him doing something freakish that warrants this "special" or untouchable reputation

OMG... Yes..
Again.. Those who saw both careers tend to vote a bit more for Pele..
Those who are younger tend to vote for Maradona..
There have been polls by newspapers, etc.., in the past that have shown this..

I've seen lots of Pele footage over the last 40 years of special things he has done.. I'm not going to list them all here..
But one of my favorites was when he was on a solo run and he beat the keeper without even touching the ball.. The keeper was all over the ground from a body fake and the ball went the other way around the keeper..
Never seen anything like it before or since..
You'd have to see it to really understand it.. Words don't work..
But he's done many equal or better things a zillion times..

There is plenty of good film on both these great players. I think every serious football fan should watch both these players in action. You may or may not reach a clear decision on who is the best, but you will get to see some amazing feats.

When the guy who marked Pele in that match, Bobby Moore, was asked about that World Cup a few years ago you get the same kind of response you get from most, not all, who actually played the game:
Who would you nominate as your key player in the 1970 World Cup?
My key player in the 1970 World Cup final without doubt would have to be Pele, the Brazilian player. He scored great goals and though he played in a great team, he used all his skills - and he had them all - to get the results for Brazil.
