In 2002 it was Anastacia (who I believe admited to never having seen a soccer game)
In 1998 we had Ricky Martin asking us if we 'really want it'
In 1994 Hall & Oats tried to resuscitate their career
In 1990 it was some Italian guy wailing on
So the question needs to be asked, who will sing it in 2006?
To set some parameters for the sake of discussion:
1. let's limit ourselves to German artists
2. notice that the artists above are either at the beginning or end of their careers, and none were top notch at the time
3. as funny as some obscure metal band would be, let's try to be both funny and realistic
Have at it:

Excellent idea! One way or another Dieter Bohlen simply has to be involved.

I would like to see Sportfreunde Stiller get it - they are big soccer fans (Bayern and 1860), have written songs about soccer before, are a real band who write real songs and are German.

Arh Dieter Bohlen- when i lived in austria and watched alot of german television it seemed like he was guest on every fooking talk show
He should team up with No Angels- i think them put together they could make a song crappy enough to be worthy (sp?) for the world cup

David Hasselhoff :)
Not German, but I think we can issue and exemption in this case.
A No Angels reunion would be great, too.
Personally, I think either Sarrah Conner or Jeanette Biedermann is perfect to show the world exactly what German manufactured pop has to offer.

I agree, she has done nothing since Terminator 2 to be honest.

It has to be the Hoff - he was in Berlin when they took the wall down and was singing. They had video of him in a black leather jacket and pants with little light bulbs on it. There he is wailing away looking like a Christmas tree. How can you not want that at the World Cup? :D

that would surely garantee (sp?) massive failure- and thats what we are looking for
the song title should be: "From Sepp Blatter with love" screamed by sarah conner.

I like it, I like it. But I'm also tempted by the thought of Jeanette dirtying things up by wearing Sepp's preferred women's soccer uniform and 'Rocking on Sepp's Floor'
Hasselhof: 'I've been looking for Goaleo', a song about not being able to find the official mascot.
I'd forgotten about the Terminator character having the same name. Too bad Arnie didn't off the German pop star in the first movie and save the world from 'Sarrah and Marc in Love' 15 years later.

She is dreadful, but I hate to admit that the video in which she is wearing white thigh-high boots keeps me interested ;)

How about a collaboration between Srah Conner, David Hasslehof and schnappi das kleine krokodil for the WC tune?

How about Die Toten Hosen. They are quite well known, interested in soccer and really big in South America, plus they sing in English, too (pushed again)
I am afraid their punk image is too hard for FIFA, unfortunately.
They are quite big in south America I believe (one of the 1st western bands to play in Argentina ever).
