Don't forget that we're talking about the Official FIFA World Cup song, which is almost by definition a non-offensive to anyone vapid pop song of qustionable quality. Any artists who are actually soccer fans or have written songs for teams before are pretty much out of the question. They coud do the Germany team song, but for the FIFA song a group like Sportfreunde Stiller seems not to qualify.

A Sarah Conner/Dieter Bohlen collaberation is almost too good to pass up, I'd say.

For the international song I think they take somebody like Robbie Williams.

If they want to promote german artists than the have to look for someone with an international approach to music but with a special german style, a little tekkno or easy listening.. And it has to be decided if it should be a more a tempo or more hymn song.

2raumwohnung could do a fine danceable but original song, or Michel Cretu / Enigma some kind of worldmusic which always fits good as soundtrack for some emotianal clips with the scenes of the day. TV broadcasters love such kind of background music.

If they want to do a hymn, then one can think about Xavier Naidoo with or without Söhne Mannheims. Something like the song from the Asterix movie with some rap.

I for myself would like something funny and humoristic from Judith Holofernes. For me "Wir sind Helden" is the actual "Zeitgeist" of german music and btw they just begin to transfer some of there songs into english, frensh and even japanese language. So maybe they want to start an international career anyways.

But face it guys, Sportfreunde Stiller, Wir sind Helden etc. are utter trash. Completely worthless garbage. They lack the international appeal to do the official song, but qualitywise they would fit right in. There is a golden rule in music: if you're in a band that's not Motörhead or Status Quo and you've been in Harald Schmidt's show... then you suck! I think I should stop posting before this turns into a 3 page long anti-Hippster rant :D.

I for one think that 2raumwohnung is great, but to far away from mainstream. Sportfreunde Stiller are too one-sided and honestly, thay can't play their instruments. They have great lyrics, but that's about it.

Wir sind Helden would be a great choice imo, but they lack of international appeal.

Xavier Naidoo is like the worst suggestion ever ;-)

But Sarah connor is by no means better than Wir sind Helden.

by the way, I just was at a meltdown concert, those guys are quite cool. Or how about Die assozialen Superhelden? :-D
