france played well in the end... i think we could have won that game but overall it was a nice game to watch... i couldn't watch the whole game since i was with a friend watching turkey get crushed by the swiss (which was nice to see, kinda have to root for our neighbor the swiss and since they played pretty well in the group stages)... so yea, promising... domenech is the only real prob though to me... is it worth firing him... i don't htink so, but he just doesn't seem like the guy that should be in that position...

That's the main problem of team France. Soon, they'll have to play with that kind of outfit :

The team looked tired and lifeless to me. The midfield play was poor. They were really missing Zidane and Vieira a lot.

After watching one of the most elegant friendlies I have seen the past few years, Argentina vs England, I was treated with France vs Germany. What an ugly brutal game. That was American football without the pads.
One thing that is going well for France are they are just Freaking big and strong. They made one of the most powerful and physical teams-Germany - look like high school kids. The only teams that can stand with them Physically are the Africans, the way I see it. However all other indvidual technicality was out the window for this one. zero, nothing, none, no elegance, not finess, no ball control.

I believe France surely need a zidane replacement.... is it the long forgotten Cheyrou.... is it..... Pires.... i think Dhorasoo is good... and getting better... but Who is the real one...? there must be someone... and for gods sake... can we have a national campaign for Gallas to move in central.... And just to simplay play with one playmaker, one defensive mid, and two wingers who can cross. i for one believe it is Pires.

There will never be a replacement for Zidane.... But after 06, the man to fill those huge shoes, will be Frank Ribery.

All we can do now is pray to the football gods that Zizou will stay healthy in the the lead up to the World Cup. Otherwise its 2002 all over again.
I agree with the person who said we have a very physical France squad now. The germans were falling flat on their faces the whole game. And I thought those guys were supposed to be tough! Makes me a lttle nostalgic for the classy French football of the Platini era though.

Funny because that's not the way I saw it: the German
team was dominant physically. These guys, who I generaly
agree with (99.9 % of the time), saw the same thing:
http://www.cahiersdufootball.com/article.php?id=2011
"Dans un match dominé physiquement et tactiquement par une équipe allemande qui a en outre bénéficié de la justesse de Michael Ballack, les Bleus ont eu beaucoup de mal à trouver des moyens d'expression satisfaisants...
Etc, etc"
But they do agree with you when you write:
Makes me a lttle nostalgic for
the classy French football of the Platini era though.
"Le bilan de la rencontre n'est pas très flatteur : être dominé physiquement par une sélection allemande, voilà qui nous ramène vingt-cinq ans en arrière. Mais à l’époque, les Bleus avaient au moins l’avantage technique. Inévitablement, la copie rendue à Saint-Denis va alimenter le procès du sélectionneur, sous l'angle, notamment, d'essais tactiques peu concluants"
So basically, in this game, we were back to being
physically dominated, just like 25 years ago, but didn't
have that "technique" advantage...
Read it. Good stuff.

So considering this I think this German side did pretty well without resorting to ugly foul play (unlike their opponents)a physical match, genau, but looked about 50-50 to me!

All that shite is deleted.
Any more OT discussion will be binned. No question, no moaning, no repos, nothing.
I am not here to protect the sensilbites of other posters from other boards, nor am I here to tolerate behaviour which is intended to wind up the regulars here as well. I am not in a position to defend my humour or anyone else's or the structure of anyone else's posts.
You may think that what you are saying is correct, but everyone follow this golden rule when posting here;
People from different countries have different attitudes to certain things
You have to appreciate other people's senibilites, particuarlly amonst those who don't know you and don't understand they way you discuss things. What other posters may see as your natural style and discourse may be taken as an act of ignorance and trolling here. Its not anyone's fault per se, but merely you should watch your step and understand this ain't Kansas.
This is the French board.
We welcome visitors here, but please remember if you are used to a certain type of behaviour, attitude and style on one board, it does not mean it is the same here.
For us, what maybe seen as insightful by one person elsewhere, could be deemed offensive here. And vice-versa
And yes this does go for me and my very tounge in cheek and often offensive humour. Normally people laugh at it, you have to get to know me. Simple.
I'm a nice guy really. ;)
Oh yes, and FG rocks. No two ways about it.

It's awful. All the new Adidas jerseys are really disappointing. It's a shame that Umbro and Puma are gradually disappearing as kit-makers, their stuff is SO much better than what's put out by Nike and Adidas these days.

Looked less awful live on TV, anyway they scrapped the red bar, we're done and dusted...

Or Airness, a French brand popular with suburb youth which provides for Rennes (and Nantes I think, now why only Breton clubs I dunno...).
We could have a graph style trendy jersey ! :D

Amazing how we humans see what we want to see. I don't dispute or want to argue with you but just surprised how we see the same game and come up with totally opposite assessment.
To me it was clear that the Germans were agressive as ususal but the French are just too big and if not big very strong as in Makelele. I saw white shirt players bouning off blue shirt palyers. I know strong and big teams such as Senegal Uruguay Germany in the past world cup. I know fast teams such Camerun and Korea.
Anyway physical dominace is not equal to WIN. In fact teams who rely on phsical dominance usually loose. It is good to have it but you cannot rely on it. That is why I see risk for France. That game was very very ugly specially on the French side.

I have to agree. But think it was a bit of an overcompensation for what happened to french teams that faced germany in the past. It was a very physical game, especially for a FRIENDLY.
