SAT question #47: Which one of these movies does not belong? ;) :D
Perhaps not a top 5, but I felt I needed a funny movie up there...and that's one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time.

Shawshank was overrated IMO...

This is a perfect example of how film taste is entirely subjective. IMO, "Lost in Translation" was really good....not the best film in the world but thoughtful and interesting (especially in that it's all based on real people that Sofia Coppola knows).
Terminal.....ugh. Been awhile since Tom Hanks has made anything worth watching.
LOL... yeah... it is completely subjective... I've had a major run in w/ Immigration at an airport before in a country where they didn't speak my language so I really identified with his character in that movie... as for Lost in Translation, the whole movie had a "you had to be there" feel to it and I only laughed once - I was depressed after I saw it.

Can I ask: If it wasn't for Matrix 3 destroying the entire trilogy... how many people would have Matrix in their top 5?

Lost in Translation was easily one of the worst movies of all time... I didn't mention it but I loved Terminal - really well done...
Hell, I could make a top 5-10 Tom Hanks movie list and it would be stellar.
Oh.. I'm editing my list... Crash has to be on the list.
You hated Lost in Translation but loved The Terminal?
I also can't believe I left out The Shawshank Redemption! And good hsout for The Boondock Saints, StrikerCW... but the accents are just SSSOOOOO dodgy. :D

Shawshank, imo, is one of the best movies ever made. The acting, direction, camera work, plot, etc are all perfect, or close to it... and the movie takes on a whole new meaning the 2nd time around.

TBH, I found the 2nd one a bit dodgy as well. The first is class, but not on my personal top 5.

Yes, especially the one with the mole :D But you have to admit its good.
Great action, but what really makes the movie is too things.
David Della Rocco as David Della Rocco (Should have won an oscar for greatness).
And the special guest star.. if you haven't seen it you might be suprised, I was.

Still a good movie... shame they probably won't make a sequel because the writer/director is apparently a complete ass. :(

I don't know, it just seemed to drag and then the action came across as forced at times. It wasn't as innovative as the first one and htus lacked some of that shock value, seemed a bit patchy in parts, lacked the same quality of acting (despite the same actors returning for many of the roles) and on the whole just wasn't as enjoyable.

It wasn't supposed to be enjoyable...it was supposed to turn your brain to mush :D

Willem was good, I still stand by Rocco though.
What does everyone think about Steve Zissou. I thought it was a shi*te movie but my roomate worships it. The humour is way to dry for me its just not funny.

LiT just did nothing for me... but like I said... Terminal was funny/ironic for me because I was in a very similar situation.

Alright, I'll let it slide ;). I didn't think the first hour of The Terminal was too bad, but after that it just dragged without remorse, began to turn ridiculous and stupid, and the whole Tom Hanks - Catherine Zeta-Jones thing got so boring that I would have preferred ti to be left out of the plot in the first place. His reason for being there was ridiculous, and surely after a while he had learned enough English to explain his reason for visiting. I could go on, but I have wiped a lot of that movie from my memory.

I thought Life Aquatic had its moments, but nowhere near as good as Anderson's first three movies.

Bottle Rocket is bar far the best of the 3, imo... but most seem to like Rushmore the most. Not to say it's not a good movie, I just love Bottle Rocket. :D

Also glad to see so many people putting Eternal Sunshine... on their lists. Fabulous movie, and if you haven't seen it, pick it up when you can.
A true list would be tough, but I'll do the best I can.
1. Apollo 13
2. Lord Of The Rings trilogy (since Tolkien essentially considered them as one book)
3. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
4. Saving Private Ryan
5. The Big Lebowski
And because I just can't stop myself...
6. Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels
7. The Shawshank Redemption
8. The Usual Suspects
9. Schindler's List
10. The Pianist
