I see what you're saying, but (oh there's always gotta be a but :D ) the difference is that although Matrix 2 (specifically) has a path the writers lead you up [to a point] the variables from that point therein are insane and totally open to interpretation. I've never seen one film cause so much furore tbh. I didn't rate M.D that highly as a head********... Donnie Darko and Leaving Las Vegas especially... totally got me all messed up though. I've yet to see Blue Velvet I'll have to check it out. Personally, I got Donnie Darko the first time I watched it, but I can't remember what my theory was since I haven't seen it for a while now. Leaving Las Vegas I didn't find that much of a head******** either, to be honest.
I guess it's all subjective'n'shit. :p
You're on a movie course at uni right? Did they make you watch The Crying Game yet? :DNot yet. ;)

It's probably not released yet in Oirland, but I would highly recommend "Capote" especially if you're into literature at all. Philip Seymour Hoffman is absolutely amazing and the entire film is very interesting and not some long boring bio pic...as it focuses on the time surrounding Capote's writing of "In Cold Blood."

The Matrix (1&2)
Silence of the Lambs (about to turn 16)
Identity - really made you scratch your head
Sixth Sense
A Beautiful Mind
Finding Nemo - yes that's 6 but I just remembered this...
Crash - excellent movie, has the ability to change people I feel.
I've got loads more of favorite movies, but these are the ones that come to mind. I'm a bit excentric when it comes to movie watching... for instance I've never seen, nor will I ever see any of the Potter crap, or the LOTR crap (too highly acclaimed) Tolkein was pedestrian imo and I'm not going to see a movie/movies made from not so great books.
My Top films from more than 15yrs ago.
Spartacus - makes Gladiator, which is fashioned after it look like crap.
Ben Hur
The Posidant Adventure - simply one of the best thrillers you will ever watch.
Jaws (hard to believe that's more than 15yrs no?)
Psycho

My list is with the assumption that Goodfellas falls into the last 15 years. (It's borderline 89/90)
1.Goodfellas
2.Pulp Fiction
3.Lost in Translation
4.Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
5.Fargo
That's a pretty nice list if I do say so myself. People constantly forget about and underrate Fargo, for what reason I don't really know.

Lost in Translation was easily one of the worst movies of all time... I didn't mention it but I loved Terminal - really well done...
Hell, I could make a top 5-10 Tom Hanks movie list and it would be stellar.
Oh.. I'm editing my list... Crash has to be on the list.

I'm suprised how many of you put Eternal Sunshine on your lists. I REALLY loved the movie when it came out.. I saw reviews of it, downloaded the trailer and decided to watch it.. I've never been able to convince my friends to watch it. But the movie blew me away.. the music, the colors, the cinematography.. mm.
I'm just happy that you guys appreciate it too :D

In no particular order and from someone who's not that heavily into film but is usually hard to impress:
The Shawshank Redmeption
Pulp Fiction
The Usual Suspects
Lord of the Rings (first one only, the other two disappointed me)
erm, nothing else tbh, of course there were others that I liked but for me those 4 stand way above the rest and I'd have problems putting in a fifth choice.

This is a perfect example of how film taste is entirely subjective. IMO, "Lost in Translation" was really good....not the best film in the world but thoughtful and interesting (especially in that it's all based on real people that Sofia Coppola knows).
Terminal.....ugh. Been awhile since Tom Hanks has made anything worth watching.
