SirManc, have you seen the film "Waking Life"? I'm a big fan of the Before Sunrise/Before Sunset films, and I was just randomly told that Waking Life is by the same director and has a cameo of the 2 characters in Before Sunrise/Sunset. It's apparently a completely off the wall film, but I've not had the chance to see it.
It's, by my interpretation, a philosophical film. I've watched it and I thought it was fantastic. The cameos are there, and the two characters do have a dialogue. Richard Linklater is quite brilliant with these.

Thanks for the reply, I'll make sure to check it out then. I was looking at his overall body of work, and you see great films like the Before series, only to be hit by the remake of Bad News Bears that had Billy Bob Thornton.
I guess even geniuses strike out once.

Agreed - Before Sunrise and Before Sunset are probably for me, some of the best romantic movies I've watched. Waking Life may be an acquired taste though, and you might have to digest it carefully. It's basically an intellectual sprawl, I think. Some might think it's pseudo-intellectual but it doesn't make any such statements; it's instead something like a sampling of various parts of life and such. I have training in philosophy (being a Psych/Philo student) so some of the discussion was all quite intuitive to myself.

Yeah, that's what I liked about the Before movies. It didn't need any extra romantic cliches, scense, phrases and the like. It was simply love as a lot of people tend to experience it. I saw the first movie single, and the second with my girlfriend, but I personally enjoyed the first one more. Either way, the director has a great way of presenting his ideas - to someone not ready for it, Before Sunrise may seem drab and unordinary, but it really is genius IMO.

I'd recommend it. It's two hours of even more intense existential chit-chat, but it's probably the best of this decade. I had a problem with the ever-changing animation though, it does get a bit absurd after a while, especially after the point is driven home so soon into it but I still highly recommend it. Linklater is the man!

Yah, the animation in Scanner was a little strange for me. It's an interesting technique though.

Army of Shadows - Best film of the last twenty years
I've seen this movie when I was like 7 years old with my older cousin who had it on VHS (left a lasting impression on me), that was in the late 80s, and I am positive the movie has been around for at least 10-15 years prior to that, so that should make it at least 30 year old...
Unless there was a remake done which I have no idea about

It was produced in 69 and only released last year in its proper format and for the first time in the U.S. It's practically a new film.

Army of Shadows - Best film of the last twenty years
I've been dying to see this for what seems like forever. None of my local rentals have it. Provided a local retail store has it... is it worth the 20 bucks to buy it on DVD? Does it have a lot of replay value? Or should I just keep hoping it shows up for rental sometime?

It depends what you consider replay value. If you've seen a Melville film before, you'll know what to expect. It's not Hollywood nor is it traditional so by normal standards I'd say it has no replay value. I find it fascinating though. Besides that it's utterly gorgeous. I suggest you rent it.

F*** it, no rental places and none of the retail stores have it in my town.
Just bought the Criterion version on Amazon. Why not, it's summer time. :)
