To try and get this back on track, I only saw two superior movies in 2005; "The Squid and the Whale" and "Junebug". There are a few movies that I haven't seen ("Capote", "Good Night and Good Luck", "Cache") but it seemed to be a year of the good but not great movie. I would put "Syriana", "The Constant Gardner" and "Munich" in that category.

The best movie I saw in 2005 was The Wedding Crashers.

I (like the critics) am so biased that I totally overlooked "The Wedding Crashers" and "The 40 Year Old Virgin", which were both hilarious.

No love for Crash or Serenity?

God, I forgot "Crash" came out this year. I didn't see "Serenity" but you can blame my wife for that.

My revised list for 2005 (in alphabetical order)

Crash
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Junebug
The Squid and the Whale
The Wedding Crashers

I only saw 5 movies in 2005: Syriana, Harry Potter, Batman Begins, Star Wars III, and Mad Hot Ballroom. Isn't that sad? :( Can't wait til I havea real job where I can afford to go more.

Of the 5 I saw, I liked Mad Hot Ballroom the best, although it's certainly not a great film.

Why aren't men knocking down your door to take you out? This is disturbing.

Why aren't men knocking down your door to take you out? This is disturbing. Please I'm a married woman!! My husband is waiting on a visa from Italy, so I am perpetually dateless and forwarding my paycheck directly to the long distance company every month.

Our story would be a good movie though:

"From the bustling streets of Brussels to the mountainous expanses of rural Lombardy to hurricane-ravaged north central florida, two young lovers overcome obstacles of distance, language, culture, and bureacracy to begin the story of a love so great . . . "

I'm sorry, I'm going to need a John Williams score behind this if I'm going to continue. ;)

Obviously you're not familiar with the 1,000 mile rule. I hope things with your husband's visa work out soon.

Yeah I rewatched it when that Polish dude woke up from his real-life coma a couple weeks ago. It definitely fits its description of a "tragicomedy."

SirManc, have you seen the film "Waking Life"? I'm a big fan of the Before Sunrise/Before Sunset films, and I was just randomly told that Waking Life is by the same director and has a cameo of the 2 characters in Before Sunrise/Sunset. It's apparently a completely off the wall film, but I've not had the chance to see it.
