My bad - Ghost in the Shell is the one with the "enhanced" cops tracking down the virus which corrupts androids etc yes? Thats the one I meant - great soundtrack as well...
That's the second Ghost in the Shell as well :D It's called Ghost in the Shell: Innocence.
If you watch the first one (Puppet Master), then you'll understand the scene where on the submarine, one of the dolls comes to aid Batuo (the male cyborg cop).

The film I watched didn't have a submarine scene IIRC - must have been the original one. Seem to remember a nice little fight scene where the totty cop gets nasty on a tank in an abandoned warehouse...
Anyway, who cares - it was a good one :D

It was quite brilliant, and the music while the ending credits rolled was really nice. Even more suprisingly so, when it was Clint Eastwood himself who wrote the music :eek:

It was a great movie, Clint should have easily taken the best actor award over Jamie Fox anyday.

Aye, you too? :D;; Alot of guys at my University called Foxx's win a sympathy vote, since Ray Charles died that year as well. I thought Foxx did a pretty great job in Ray. Well, I'm not the best critic so I dunno.. :D;;

yep, a sympathy vote for Charle's death and because he's black, same with Washington a few years back when the majority of critics thought Crowe deserved it more.

I think the only reason to bother watching the oscars (which I always do) is to watch the nearly histrionic inanity of it all :cool: In other words, its pretty ********in stupid -- but its fun to watch all the people who think its important. The awards are usually based on studio campaigns and bizarre trends -- like the sudden hollywood award racial equality movement in recent years. Which, I suppose, is not a bad trend to have if you have to have one, its just totally artificial and superficial.
In my opinion, the writing oscars are the only categories where you consistently get really good/deserving films nominated.
I should also add that another reason I watch the oscars is because something on one of my bitchy x-chromosomes loves to see what people are wearing, especially if they look terrible. I think its the "Joan Rivers" gene.

While I agree that Denzel didn't deserve it for Training Day, I think it fell into the category of "its really about damn time for him to win one." for all the times Denzel got robbed.
Also, I really really really enjoyed Ray. I don't think it was pity or pc or anything, I honestly think he deserved the award. After about 40 mins of the movie I had to remind myself that I was watching Jamie and not actually Ray. Jamie's singing was also excellent in that film.
I really enjoyed both Million Dollar Baby and Ray, and if I had to chose which movie was better I'd probably go with MDB which had one of the saddest endings you could imagine. That really tugged on the heart strings.

To try and get this back on track, I only saw two superior movies in 2005; "The Squid and the Whale" and "Junebug". There are a few movies that I haven't seen ("Capote", "Good Night and Good Luck", "Cache") but it seemed to be a year of the good but not great movie. I would put "Syriana", "The Constant Gardner" and "Munich" in that category.
