You can actually download podcasts of many french shows. L-equipe.tv has one.

Our website has links to the live audio commentary for most of the French Ligue 1 teams, I personally have found the Bourdeaux coverage on WIT FM to be the most understandable, not sure whether it's because I enjoy that particular team, or because that region of France has more of a history of being "influenced" by the UK.

meet french kids. there are 5 chez moi right now. they all have thick accennts i love it.
you know with all the reading tips and people being frustrated by not being able practice or properly gauge their level, as obvious as it is, meeting people is the way to go. There are a lot of regional french expat sites around, and they all seem very welcoming (yes even the parisians) and are willing to let francophiles join in on their activities - perfect time to practice.

Huzzah! I just got a letter in the mail today, that said I've been acepted at Glendon College, which is one of the only totally bi-lingual schools in Canada. By going there I'll be able to speak french and have the oppertunity to go on an exchange to France.

Some webTV links and other media for those -they know who they are- who can't get TV5 or other French speaking media. I haven't checked every single one of them, the one that seems to work consistantly is BFM TV, a business&news channel.

Videos from Canal+ broadcast, you have to suscribe, I guess it's free, dunno...You'll have access to some comedy shows like 'Les guignols' and 'Groland'.

Same from TV5 :

TF1, you'll have access to reports from the most watched french news program.

Once you get annoyed by their tone and the way they talk, it's a good sign regarding your comprehension of the language...:D

Well I'll have to get my own textbook, which will be the one that the prof wants me to, but thanks anyway.
And I took a year of it in HS btw. :D

my inlaws have pretty thick provençal accents (i'm not fond honestly)... my wife is an exception as she spent a good portion of here childhood in région parisienne, but i can always tell when she has her mother on the phone! :p
they think our kids' lyon accents are just adorable; as for themselves, well of course they don't have accents!

they don't have accents!
I don't have an accent !
Well, apparently, us Bretons, as long as we don't sound like speaking some peasant dialect, it seems that we speak faster than anybody else. And Parisians do have an accent, the original 'titi' one asides, there's this annoying sound -ouaiein- (think about Marc-Olivier Fogiel) that's probably shared by most urban youth nowadays. And of course, the colourful suburb one...
Apart from that, there's an uniformisation through the telly.

I guess it would be more or less like Rennes ie no distinctive accent except perhaps speaking fast and more from the throat. Not really the same if you go in rural areas. Even in my home town I sometimes had some difficulties with elders.

What about the normandy accent? if it exists...

bah alors çâââ...p'têt ben qu'oui, p'têt ben qu'non.
That was Normand ! :D
The best known example I can give you is Roger Lemerre's way of speaking since he's from Manche.

I'm sorry to resurrect this thread, but I figured I might as well add to this thread instead of creating a whole new one. I am new to learning French as well. I figured I would take my interest in soccer and combine it with learning French and check out Ligue 1 and some of the team sites. It's going to be a little bit though.
I have nabbed all the links given previously in the thread and will be listening/reading. um..Merci! Now I guess I just need to figure out which team to follow. It would probably make it a bit more exciting if I have somewhat of an emotional interest in it. I have found there is a Columbus, OH branch of the Alliance Francaise and I hope to join there as well. hmm..I guess I also need to figure out how to add the accents and cevilla when I type. :)
