Right. Stop it. Rix was convicted of the crime and has done his time. I want no more discussion of this or I'll kick someones arse.
Start again.

The last poster was a bit off his rocker but moving on in good taste I don't think Rix has what it takes to get the job done. Give Rix credit he knows this can be step in a different direction and once he has shown he can coach a contending side that doors will open for him that weren't there before. I mean who knows he could be coaching the Gers come next July. :D

I wonder how Rix's criminal record will affect his tenure? Clearly influential fan groups, such as the Hearts Supporters Trust, disapprove. Perhaps some players do as well?
Oh, wait, we can't talk about that.
Well, away I go to Soccerbase to have a scintillating look at his record while at Oxford (poor, by the way.)

I might look at him being laughed at by Partick Thistle when he applied for the job...

My mistake. All that stuff you said about it being a closed issue that didn't affect his managerial ability must have confused me somehow ;)

His conviction and circumstances of this are a closed issue. The issue of him having a sexual convictions and managing are not.

Teso, I have made it clear that discussing Rix's case is not relevant.

I disagree, please see below for reasoning.
'Rix was sentenced to 12 months in prison in March 1999 after having under-age sex with a 15 year-old girl and was also convicted of indecent assault. He was released from jail after just six months but was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years'.
That therefore means he is on the sex offenders register until 2009. The question remains as to whether this fact will prevent him for working with the Hearts youth teams or youths of a certain age. That is what I want to know the answer to. Obviously if the answer is yes, then it limits what he is able to do in his official capacity of head coach. That calls into question why he was appointed. It could also have broader implications for the Hearts supporters in terms of activities involving child fans (tours, events, etc). This is an issue we need to have answered before we can move on to looking at whether he is a suitable candidate for the job in terms of past achievements, public relations and whether he will be accepted by fans from all sides.

He was convicted of sex with a girl so I can probably say that the youth teams are safe and quite frankley he has to be completly insane do anything like that again because people will be watching him.
I am not stopping you discussing the broader implications. Your post I deleted had nothing to do with Hearts or his place as Hearts coach.

I don't know what the regulations are in regard to the register and working with children. You could also argue about his position and the children who are fans. Boy or girl, does it really make a difference in the grand scheme of things? Does anyone know or have any links so that can settle this particular issue?

Im not entering this discussion onl to say everyone, including Teso, who knows the circumstances of the case knows Rix was damm unlucky. Hence I have sympathy. On the issue Teso raised it's a valid one. The register doesn't discriminate which is one of the worst points of it. You could be convicted of molesting 8 year olds in care homes, or for a 16 year old guy having sex with a girl 5 days younger than him. The entry on the register is the same. You are prevented from working with kids. Therefore it may well affect how he manages Hearts. Though lets face it, not many managers have much to do with the youth team anyway......
This is a perfect example of how the sexual offenders register leads to persecution and unfairness in the UK.

I'm going to post a little bit of info on the case, as Toon said - leave it at that after you've read this. It will make those who are calling him a Paedo in the last thread, that maybe they jumped the gun a little......
The thing about the case that made it so crap (in my opinion) was that Rix picked the girl up in a club. Now clubs have a legal age of 18 here, which is well over the age of consent. I hate to say it, but if a girl who looks well above the age of consent of 16 goes into a club, lies about her age to the club AND Rix (which she admitted in the trial) a bloke pulls her and she consensually goes back to a hotel and has sex with him......well I'm not too sure in reality how much blame a bloke can be put under. Anyone thats had a one night stand when you were younger - did you ask to look at the girl's passport or birth cirtificate????!!!!!! No, you thought you were lucky getting laid and enjoyed it. It was the girls father that made sure the case went through the CPS against the girl's wish's.
I think maybe if that bit of info is put up, then there will be less of a Paedo calling, more of a unlucky sod. It could happen to any guy at Uni who picks up a girl in a bar.

On the other hand, you'll remember that we're Scottish football fans, who aren't interested in accuracy as much as we are getting it right up the opposition.
WITH A BAG OF SWEETS AND... OK, I'll leave it at that :)
I do agree with what you're saying, and you've put it very well :)

I'm fully aware of that Rick, as I'm sure it has happened to most people at one time or another. Unfortunately for Rix, that isn't going to prevent the opposition taunts. As Rix stated at the press conference:
"Seven years ago, I made a mistake and, once I realised I had made a mistake, I held my hands up and accepted my punishment."

Unfortunately for him, football just isn't like that. Besides I'm more interested in what this means for his role at the club. Although admittedly, I have had a chuckle at a few of the songs... ;)

I think it's too early. The only thing that will be affected is his ability to work with under 16's. Very few managers do and I am sure Hearts will say something to that affect in the future. At present they haven't (well no-one has found a quote relating to the youth team anyway!!) So therefore we can't address that question yet.
I agree, the hardest thing that he will have to deal with is the oppositions chants. That will test him, but he has been dealing with it for a while, so we shall see.
