What is the record for the most passes made by a team without turning over possession to the other team?

Don't know, but I remember a champions league game, Liverpool - Barcelona when Barcelona had possesion for minutes it seemed and the Rivaldo scored...first thing that came to mind

You could take a look at the first minutes of the WC74 final. Holland got a penalty after a lot of passes from kick-off. The first German to touch the ball was the keeper when he got the ball out of the net.

The goal Brazil scored on Argentina at Confed Cup came after more than one minute of great passes.

It was beautiful.
Even the defenders participated.

Actually the penalty was given after Cruijff made a run into the box.

where did i say something opposite?

Before cruijff was brought down, there were loads of passes if i remember correctly (mind the fact that i was born after that match, but ok)

If I remember correctly loads of passes isn't really appropiate here but I too was born after the match. Though that can also tell somthing about the condition my brain is in. :)

Same for me, I think I remember hearing the number 47 or something along those lines; couldn't believe what I was hearing at the time!

How about the Germany-Austria match from 82? Algeria had earlier shocked the world by defeating Germany and Austria had soundly beaten Algeria. In the last match of group play, Algeria had already narrowly beaten Chile. Because the Algeria-Chile match had already been played, Germany knew they would advance with any win (but would not advance with a draw or loss) and Austria knew they would advance as long as they lost by a small margin. Germany scored early and afterwards, knowing the current score would see them both through to the next round, the 2 teams stopped attacking or pressuring and just kicked the ball around the middle of the pitch for about the last 80(?) minutes while whistles and boos rained down from the crowd. Game ended 1-0. Germany, Algeria, and Austria all had 4 pts (wins were 2 pts back then), Chile 0 pts. Algeria was eliminated on goal differential. FIFA changed the rules after this so that in the WC Finals (as well as other events), the last games in a group are usually played simulaneously. I wouldn't be surprised if this match (not one I was able to watch in the states back then) involved long strings of passes with a possession change.

Saw 40 in a DC/Columbus match this year late on where United had the lead and the Crew failed to challenge for the ball. Chewed up well over 2 minutes of time.

The icing on the cake for a wonderful and best world cup ever, 70', was the last goal scored by Brazil vs Italy. a number breathtaking moves by Revelino, Gerson, Jairzinho and Tostao and was finally a touch pass by Pele for a smashing score by a Carlos Alberto. Watch it - Its on fifa's website. You need broad-band.

A famous one was in the 1972 Euro Final where the (West) Germans put together over 30 passes with the Soviets completely befuddled. That was a good Soviet team too but they were smashed 3:0.

60? Is this the best of all time you think? On 2005 no less....

Here we go again. I already missed my monthly dose of Austria-Germany-82-kicking-the-ball-around-for-80-minutes myth ... not!

Why do people just repeat things they have read somewhere instead of actually watching the game they are making assumptions about themselves? The kicking-the-ball-around-aimlessly didn't start before the 70th minute. Get yourself a copy of the game and you'll see it.
