A big thank you to everybody who turned out for the tailgate yesterday (5 Nov.). Extra props to those who brought food/drink/utensils/Jell-O shots, etc. A good time was had by all. The previous tailgates were fun, too, but I think this last one topped them all, and it makes me optimistic for good things to come from this supporter group.

The Rapids' season may be over, but the Centennial Firm's camaraderie knows no off-season! Any of you planning to attend the season ticket holder party next Sunday? If so, I think we should put our heads together for a little bit and discuss a variety of off-season gatherings. I think we should shoot for one official C-Firm function per month. Here are some suggestions I've heard:

Viewing party for a non-Rapids game
Bowling night
FIFA 2006 tournament
Secret Santa-type holiday gift exchange
Soccer-themed movie viewing party

Any other ideas? Post 'em here.

I'll back up what chilistrider said. It was really cool to see so many people out and around the tent and tailgate at the west side of parking lot C. I was surprised to see such a great turn out. While I didn't eat any food or Jello shots it was nice to see a lot of people having fun pre-game. Hopefully we can continue this next season from the start.

I can make the Jello-shots a tradition. They are messy but if the crowd likes em' the crowd will get them. ;)

A bowling night would be cool once in a while.

I think we need to find a sponsor in the next year to get some money for some t-shirts for us.

We should also find a place where we could just play some indoor ball. No league no formality, just kick it around. Since I'm not from here I have no clue where we could do that other then on the Auraria Campus at the gym.

Already working on that......should be wrapped up here in the next week or so.

So why didn't you say something at the tail gate? Were you too busy untangeling yourself from all the TP? :p

Seriously, right on.

"Werd up" to the idea of off-season gatherings. Win or loss, the tailgate was still fantastic. Lets keep the fan momentum rolling. At the end of the day, it's the fan comradery that keeps a supporter groups going.

Just as a side note. If you have any pictures of past events, Oct 22nd Tailgate, Viewing Party, Nov 5th tailgate, please zip them up and send them to me at arghm8y<at>gmail.com. If for some reason they are too large, or you have any questions, PM me and I can get you a different email or answer any questions. I'm trying to update the site with some stuff.

And I'm not sure if Brown wanted me to let the cat out of the bag yet or not, but here's what I'm updating.

Centennial Firm Web Site (http://centennialfirm.pokenhagen.com/index.html)

I'm no web developer and I'm using an ancient tool to build this but I'm having a good time.

Poker night is cool too.

Does anyone have any DVD/Videos of older "best of" matches? They sell some compilations of previous teams winning the cup and/or the history of soccer for that country. If we could get our hands on some of those, that is a great way to increase knowledge for the game and get some material for chants and such.
-- too academic?

I actually do have Fifa Fever (a two disc collection on the history of the World Cup), A History of Soccer (a 7 DVD collection that started as a BBC type documentary) & all of the American games at the 2002 WC. If you keep your eyes open there is a guy who offers the USA games every few months for $15 or something absurd like that. Basically he is covering the cost of DVDs and shipping so he doesn't get in trouble with ABC for selling their content. Well worth the investment.

Unfortunatly I don't have the space to invite a bunch of people over for a screening party. So if someone else can supply a house/theater...we can have some educational soccer time.

Working on this as well, I have been in contact with pubs around Denver about hosting all these aforementioned events. It is down to 4 right now who are more then willing to work something out.

ahhh... thanks for that link....

Speaking of chants, we need to get some chants in spanish going for when Chivas-lite is here. We don't need a bunch, just a few to tick some people off in their native language.

Brown, your brown, what great chants have you heard used against your team in your glory hunting that you have done? :)

Well, the game starts at 9am, and it is only showing on FSC which means there are a limited number of places we could go, which also means it would be very hard finding a pub open that early that would host us. Fado's is open that day but will be pretty busy that morning witht the Eng-Arg game and the $20 cover!

I like the idea of DVD /movie night. I also have FIFA Fever which is has a pretty good overview of the world cup. Lest we get too academic I also have a DVD called something like "Soccer Thugs & Hooligans " narrated by Steve Jones of Sex Pistols fame, good stuff. On the more dramatic side of things there is "Fever Pitch" (the English soccer one, not the American baseball one) and of course "The Firm" (the English soccer hoolligan one with Gary Oldman not the John Grisham American one).
