Anyone think RVN is going to become the permanent captain when Keane leaves?

Chesea will need a new striker in January...

There is no way Crespo is going to stick around playing second fiddle to Drogba... especially in a WC season...he wasn't even in the party that travelled to OT today.. that is good news for us.

Having said that, he was quoted as saying he doesn't want to play regular first team football in a WC year for fear of burning himself out...Crazy ass ********...

I'll just try and find a link.

He was officially listed as injured.
Jose got riled when the Sky commentator asked him about comments attributed to Crespo and said it is his responsibility that the player is not here. The official line is suspect.

How did the defense(especially Rio Ferdinand) play? Congrats 2 Fletcher on the huge goal. He definitely quieted all the haters after that score. I wonder what Keano has to say now about Fletcher.

Make no bones about it, we HAVE to play with the same amount of commitment against Wigan. It is kind of a derby game and Wigan are the fiercest team in the league imo. They try SO hard and will try EXTRA hard against us. We really need the same amount of application against them.

You could've just edited your "first response!!!!!", Zinn.. <-- apart from some minor cameos, thankfully  didn't appear much today.

And I don't think Ruud will be permanent captain.. and I certainly wouldn't like that, we need a commanding character. And given how he's always isolated upfront, I'd prefer someone who's always involved in the play. If anything, Giggs will almost definitely take over Keano. I'm still hoping for either a new character to come in and take the captaincy (e.g. Ballack) or maybe someone like Smith. But I don't know whether he has the charisma that Keane possesses.

About the match: Great, DESERVED win. Regardless of what some Chelsea fans are saying on their board. We scored, and defended like crazy, suffering wave after wave of blue onslaught. Lampard could've scored for them, but too bad. Their backline was pretty strong though, and we didn't have much chances upfront.. I hope the second half, where Chelsea dominated, was not motivated by Queiroz's-1-0-and-defend tactics.. I certainly think we were still trying to go up, but as the half wore on, Smith hardly left our own half of the field and there was a significant number of red shirts that stayed on to defend.

I had a long long comment in the actual in-game thread about all the players' performance.. so I'll just add on to that. I think Park should have come earlier on, because he brings a defensive element but also an attacking imperative. He is probably one of our best "rounded players" with quite equal attacking and defending abilities, and capable at both, too. Ruud didn't get to see much of the ball, and had maybe, 5-10 minutes of action in the whole match.

I wonder what the formation was when Park came on for Ruud, though... If anything I'd had expected Ronaldo to come off, since Park would be a direct substitute and would defend more. So now we had a pretty funny system, where we had Ronaldo on the left, Park ALSO playing on the left-mid, and Fletcher on the right. Hmm. I don't know. Was he really playing upfront striker?

Regardless, great, exciting, terse match. Always believed that Chelsea could make a comeback, and Frank Lampard suprisingly disappointed in multiple free kick attempts. Where's the trademark curl? But that's good for us anyway. Alan Smith for MOTM, great for 60-70 minutes. A little invisible in the last 20, but I'm hoping that's because he was doing positional defending. I still think we should get a proper DM, *unless* Smith shows consistency in the next 10 matches.

Before people start going crazy with Fletcher and how great he is, he scored one goal that was pretty lucky. At best, he was the 5th best player for our side so don't go talking about how great he played.

On the Chavscum board they are already talking about buying Adriano in January...

I don't think Keane would put down a goal but I don't think he'd base a performance on just that, either.

Great game by United, and they proved me right by coming out and raising their game against a true top class opposition. :) They absolutely dominated the first half, but it's too bad that it was completely the other way around in the second... Still, United did enough and came away with it. This is why I love to watch United play (well, asides Park playing...). Their passion, their crowd, their magic... great stuff.

I'm just going to go ahead and post my ratings along with comments:

VDS: Didn't have to do anything in the first half, but he was bloody brilliant in the second!! He stepped it up when he had to, and he showed that he could be the most dependable goalkeeper in the EPL as long as the defense in front of him plays at least adequately. 8.

Ferdinand: This was the Rio of old we saw today. He didn't look like he had the particular flare or anything, but he responded to his criticism today by looking very composed back there. Great job, and he needs to keep this up. 8.5.

Silvestre: Sent some nice long balls down the field and did his job at the back as well. 8.

Brown: Pushed up forward more than O'Shea did, and though he did make that one stupid clearance to give them a corner, did his part to keep Chelsea at bay. 7.5.

O'Shea: Didn't push up forward at all, but that was to be expected. As a result, he didn't look too bad at all. He did have his shaky moment, but nothing detrimental. 7.5.

Fletcher: Great goal, no matter what the intent was. Anyone noticed that after he scored the goal, he played with 3000% more enthusiasm and inspiration? A goal was something he needed, methinks, and he played very well today no matter how you look at it. 8.5.

Smith: If he had dark hair (or had any hair at all I guess, now that he's shaven), I would have mistakened him for Keane... he was the very one who kept the team inspired and flared up. Trust me, without him today, the United would have lost today. His "triple slide" today just showed how focused he was on this match, and he did very well winning the ball and giving the ball off to the flanks. His best match at the midfield so far this year, no doubt. 9.

Scholes: Again, unlucky to not have that goal... man, he's been missing by inches all season... you have to feel bad for him. He wasn't as proficient in going forward but did a LOT in going back and winning the ball today. It was as if HE was the DMF today. 7.5.

Ronaldo: Great game from him, and much of United's first half success was due to his amazing runs and his rapege of Ferreira :D He slowed down a bit in the second, and was much too greedy with the ball sometimes as well, but still, his contribution was obvious and he deserves a good grade. 8.5.

Rooney: Same old stuff from him... the good stuff, obviously. Though he didn't have any crack on net today (at least I don't think he did), he ran up and down the field all day and looked dangerous when he had to be. It was funny to see him play the left back at times :D 8.5.

Ruud: Definitely the player who struggled the most today. It's no easy job against Terry and the like, though. He definitely was guilty of missing that fine chance, however. He needs to bury those. 6.5.

Park: Played all of 10 minutes (should have came on maybe 10 or so minutes earlier), but he did his job as a substitute for sure... The United finally pushed up forward more after he came in, and his passing and running was fine as usual. He should be a staple sub and possibly a part time starter for many years to come for United. 7.

I thought Fletcher had a great match, especially before Chelski switched to 4-4-2. He was good in defence and created some opportunities up front. His best game of the season IMO.
