Apparently the next game that will be broadcast live by Sat 1 is going to be Schalke 04 vs. Eindhoven.

I think that is not a good decision. Sat 1 really pick the wrong games most of the time. Look at Bayern vs. Juve, together with the last season, they have now broadcast this encounter four times! That is simply too much. They should have known that games in Turin are usually a fairly dumb affair (stadium not even half full, no atmosphere). Instead they should have shown Bremen vs. Udinese, a German-Italian game with a relatively high winning chance for the German team (in a sold-out stadium with atmosphere).
Next they should have shown Bayern vs. Rapid at the Allianz Arena, as German-Austrian duels are always interesting and a high win for the German team does not look out of reach. It is really annoying that this German-Austrian encounter will not get televised by Sat 1, a missed opportunity, it would have been so much more fun than watching a dire Juve game at the delle Alpi stadium.
And on the last day, they should have shown Milan vs. Schalke, which will probably be a decisive match for both teams.

Surely that was a good decision. They can't get it wrong all of the time.

I think they did the right decision, cause this games are more intersting of winnig or survive in a group than Munich/Vienna.
When Schalke not win, the Milan/Schalke match isn`t important anyway.
That Werder will win vs. Paok is thinkable, so Barca/Werder is interesting.
And really, did you await an interesting game between Munich and Rapid?
Ok, the "Alpenstadion" was 3/4 empty. But the match was ok. Munich lost unfortunatly and was a worth look till the last minutes.
Sure, the Atmosphere was better in Bremen and Schalke, the match in Bremen
interesting too (Schalke not so in the 2nd. half).
But Schalke vs. PSV is a match Germany vs. Holland. And that`s interesting too. And I think it`s sportly more valued than Germany vs. Austria.
This match will bring more sportly highlights than Munich/Rapid.

Enjoy what they give you while you can, because if I recall correctly as of next year there will be no CL on free to air TV in Germany (or will it be that Premiere decides which game to let Sat 1. show rather than Sat 1. choosing?)and the BL highlights show will be pushed back to 22.30.
Just one man's prediction: in 5 years UEFA will be in crisis because they will have so completely removed football from the everyday life of casual fans. If the CL only exists on TV (the vast majority of fans will never see a game in person) and you have pay 30 Euro a month (or whatever it is to see it), at what point do people stop paying attention? If fans have to wait more than four hours after the BL games are over to see the highlights, at what point do they simply stop waiting and do something else (at 10.30 on a Saturday night!!!)?
The hardcore fans will put up with it, but causal fans will not, and more importantly new fans will not be drawn in.
Shirt sponsors of German teamsa are already threatening to pull out of their deals. Why should a firm pay lots of money to get their logo on a shirt that nobody will ever see? UEFA will regret this.
Sorry for that tangent, back to your original question: Sat 1. cares about putting the game on that will attract the most viewers. Period. It's hard to argue with Juve-Bayern on that point. Schalke-PSV seems like a crowd puller, too (I'll be watching, at least).

The Bayern group is just not very interesting anymore. Whether Juve or Bayern will get first place... phhh... *yawn* The supposed Germany-Austria rivalry thing is not enough to make up for that.
Bremen and Schalke still fight for all or nothing. There are higher stakes, and that's where the excitement is.

No offence to Austrians (and especially my Hard Rockin' amigo Mattbro), but I don't think that the casual fan in Germany gives a ******** about Rapid Wien.
In last week's Kicker there was a match report for the Club Brugge - Austria Wien game, btw :D.

Premiere bought the CL pay- AND tv-rights for the next 3 (?) season, but they have to show a match each week live on free-tv. Either they sell to Sat1, RTL, ARD etc. or they set up an own free-tv channel. There are even rumours that instead of setting up an own channel, they might buy DSF.
Anyway, Premiere will surely have an own free-tv channel in the nearer future.

Sat 1 CL coverage was a cheek last Wednesday.
After the Bayern match, they first made interviews with Bayern officials
(20 minutes)
Then they showed highlights of all other matches,
i didn´t care about, (30 minutes (games scenes about 5 minutes, 25 minutes Bierhoff analysed the matches; he should better try to make the NT play good football)
and the Bremen hightlights were the last, they showed.
It was about 11:30 pm or something, when the highlights
of Werder-Udinese were shown.
matches broadcasted this season by Sat.1:
Bremen - Barca
Schalke - Milan
Bayern - Juve
Juve - Bayern
...
last season:
Bayern: 7 matches broadcasted
Leverkusen: 2 matches
Bremen: 1 match :(

Thanks for the clarification, jonam. I'm glad it won't be as bad as I thought. For some reason I'd gotten it into my head that either there would be no free tv or Premiere would be choosing the game (and thus choosing one nobody wants to see to force people to buy its service).
As for the Sat 1. coverage: crap. Maybe this is personal taste, but having grown up with two man commentary (PBP man and a color commentator), I can't used to the German one man commentary. There is also one guy Sat !. uses (sorry, don't know his name) who literally makes my skin crawl when I hear his voice. He sounds like he's working for a children's show.
The aftergame is also annoying. You get to sit through interviews where nothing interesting is ever said and then get no more than a couple minutes of highlights of some, but not all, of the other games at the end.
And no highlights on the day when they don't show a match? What's with that?
I seem to remember it being a little better when RTL had the rights, but I could be wrong about that.

This season Sat1 can still choose which game they want to broadcast. From next season on Premiere will make the choice, I guess. Maybe good for all non-bayern supporters.

Sat1 show hightlights at 0.30am as part of their midnight news show. Though a really crappy service IMHO.

Premiere is OK because you can watch it basically for free at pubs and clubs and maybe friends. what pisses me of most is that mist pubs rather show the Bayern match that the conference or the Werder match even IF Bayern is shown in FreeTV at the same time. An then they wonder why their pub stays empty.
The only problem with Sat1 that I have is that they don't like to show Bremen-games for whatever reason. (oh and the argument that less people would want to watch a club like Bremen compared with Schalke or Bayern doesn't count because last season they aired Leverkusen 3 times in the group stage)

I don`t agree with you. Premiere is not perfect, but it`s not as bad as you say.
You can get Premiere Sport + Fussball for 199 Euro p.a. (16 Euro 50 per month). In my mind that`s not too expensive for their offer:
- all Bundesliga games live
- all Champions League games live
- 3 live games per weekend of 2.Bundesliga + all other games in conference
- over 200 games from Premier League, Primera Division and Serie A
- A lot of World Cup qualification games. At Saturday they also broadcasted the friendly match of Argentina - England.
plus other sports like US Sports (NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB) or German Leagues (DEL = Icehockey, BBL = Basketball) ...

The Premiere website says somthing quite different (€34.80 per month if you go in for a 24 month Abo).

As Stingray wrote, this is indeed *************
Yeah, it's more expensive now.
My father's subscription runs out in march and he will not extend it because he feels it's too expensive now.
No playoff-hockey for me! :(
The most stupid thing is that you can't just order the "Fußball live" package.
Before it was just sports and everything was included.

for those who go to a bar to watch games on Premiere, how much money do you spend on drinks per month?
And yes, they did raise their price August 1, but I called in July to renew my subscription early. As a result for the next two years I am only paying 23 Euros for the full Sports package. One of my favorite German words is mitdenken. ;)

You`re right, but if you´re clever you order prepaid cards. They are a lot of cheaper.
Here some examples:

Premiere Komplett: Sometimes it was offered for only 249 Euros. But 299 Euro is still cheap for all Premiere channels.
Or just look at ebay for "Premiere Prepaid".
