Wigan

Reminds me a lot of Real Sociedad's run in La Liga a few seasons back. Imagine if they stay so high all season!! It isn't beyond the realms of possibilty with the mess the league is this season (no real idea who the 4th CL spot contenders are as it's not Liverpool and could well be out of Wigan and Spurs :D ) plus the chairman they have is willing to plough millions into them in the transfer market.

They currently lead Portsmouth 1-0 and if they win this game they will be 6pts behind Chelsea.

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing. They have it right through the club too watching their 1st team is identical to watching their 17yr old reserve team. They try, and fight for the whole 90minutes all working their hardest with absolutely no slackers. Fergie needs to play a tape of a Wigan tape to some of our lot.

I'm not surprised Wigan are doing well, sure I didn't see this coming, but I expected them to finish around midtable this season. Ever since Jewell has taken over and they have got some of their most important players in a few years back, they have been a very underrated force. They got promoted from the 2nd division ("League 1" ) with ease, and then were not only in the playoff spots, but looking a possibility for automatic promotion in their first season in the 1st division ("the Championship"  ), but ran into some injuries and iddn't have a lot of depth as the season came to a close. I put £20 on them getting promoted before last season, and it paid off as they came 2nd. This season I was going to put either £50 on both them and Sunderland to stay up, or £30 on them, Sunderland and West Ham. A crazy bet I know, but although Sunderland haven't lived up to expectations (although I think they still have a decent hsot at survival), Wigan and West Ham (who I only thought would be staying up after their signings were made - I guess we all know the answer to the question of 'where is the money going?' that their fans have been asking over the past 2 seasons).

This season's promoted teams are far, far, far stronger than any trio for years. I can't recall exactly who got promoted and when, but can anybody think of a stronger group of promoted teams? Did Bolton, Charlton & Bradford all come up one year, because they came up closely together and all 3 (esp. the first two) did well/have done well.

I read somewhere that Newcastle won it's fourth in a row today.

Can someone confirm if this is true.

Yeah, Parker & Emre have done better than I expected, and N'Zogbia has been an utter revelation. Still, they don't have the depth and/or quality at the back (they have a few decent players, but nobody great) to keep this form up, and Given can only keep them in games for so long.

In Sounness I trust... to ******** it all up

Would Paul Jewell be happy as a number 2 at United? I mean, its just a nominal position anyway because he'd be doing most of the managerial tasks anyway

We have bionic titus bramble at the back, he will play for England one day, and he will play well damn it!

Our back four is the best it's been....well....ever so its a plus.

Our last four games have been sun'lun, Grimsby, WBA and Burberryham. Not the most challenging teams to play so I guess we'll have to settle for Uefa cup place this year.

We are capable of winning every single game from now until New Year. If we have only lost once (at chelsea away  )from now until Boro at home on Jan 2nd I'll be more than happy.

Souness will be judged by me and quite a few Newcastle fans by our position then.

Until then all I can say is....

Emre pass you make!
Emre shot you take!
Emre goal you rake!
Emre heart you break!
We'll be watching you!!

 NO!!!!!

IT CAN'T BE TRUE!!!!

The Officer has actually come on a lot in the last year or so, despite looking like Silvestre's slower cousin in his early days after doign so well as Ipswich. Carr is decent, but you could do with gettign somebody better and younger there over the summer... but who is playing LB for you these days? Babayaro, still? Last I heard, Toon fans weren't so hot on him.

Then again, it's not very hard to be the best Newcastle back-4 ever, now is it? :D

Taylor is probably the best young centreback in the country at the moment. The question is not if he'll play for England but when. Carr is good but we have discovered the young talent that is Peter Ramage. Another local youngester from the academy. He has played very well while Carr has been injured and I'd think that he'll keep his place once Carr comes back from injury. I'll say this for souness, if you play well you will play in the first team, that is something that didn't happen under Robson and is probably the reason that Chopra has been a failure.

If these players fufill their potential, Newcastle could have the 3 of the future England backfour playing for them......

After Gary retires internartionally (I am guessing after the World Cup), it's going to be a fight between Ramage & Bardsley in the long run, I reckon. Thing is, if/when Taylor makes it, I doubt Bramble will at the same time. One may force his way int othe starting XI a few years down the line, but I doubt both will even after Rio & Carragher are done for England, since there will still be King, Terry, Dawson, Anton Ferdinand and one or two others to compete with.

Dawson and Taylor have played very well together, and they're still only pups. They will be the central partnership for England in future years. After King and Terry have led us to a successful defense of the world cup. What? It could happen. Good job Taylor doesn't have the speed of continental drift like Dawson.

Oh and Graeme, Titus Bumble is utter plop, so stop trying to fool everyone else about him. In the long run, you're only fooling yourself. :D

England seem to be producing alot of good centrebacks at the moment. King and Terry have both proved that they have what it takes to play week in week out in the premiership,

I still think that King is unproven at international level and until Campbell retires and Ferdinand is dropped he won't been given a chance. People seem to think that he will be the central midfield answer, I can't see him doing that since a player will never play to his full potential if he is played out of position.

Spurs won't play King at defensive midfielder so Sven should just give up on that plan. It just won't work. Parker is the answer to this problem and if he isn't picked and played in the world cup england won't win it or even get to the quater-finals.

I have £10 on you lot to beat Chelsea 2-1 tomorrow.

Bramble isn't "plop" he is quality. Just look back to when we beat Chelsea in the cup last season. Best team in the world??? Don't make me laugh. Titus Bramble owned them in that game.

Just before I head off to beddy byes. Bramble is actually talented. The thing with him is he will never be as good as he is in only the briefest of flashes. Much Like Gardner. Has the ability somewhere to put in rock solid performances that hold the back line together but is generally a bit shite. Hey ho.

As regards King, his one chance to shine was taken with both hands against France. He was absolutely effing wonderful in that game. Slotted in seemlessly and all the worries people had were forgotten about 10 minutes into the match. Had it not be for a needless backpass from Stevie G, we should have got a draw at the least. Ah well. Bollox.

I'm crazy I know, but.........we should play three in defence, with King being one due to his pace and just general funkiness and play five in midfield, with Cariick and Parker in front of the defence for different reasons, Parker's tackling and runs into the box and Carricks passes. Slap A.Hole on the left of midfield, Lampard in front of Parker and Carrick, we'd be laughing.
