I was thinking about how many journeyman there are in football, players who never really excel at a club, but many of them have certain games or performances that really stand out. For example, Kanu was never, in my recollection, a key player for Arsenal, but he had that brilliant substitute appearance against Chelsea in which he scored a hattrick off the bench. Another player, this time for Chelsea, would be Jesper Gronkjaer, who was very inconsistent, but scored a vital goal in the CL 2 years ago. Feel free to post your own.

Gianni Comandini for Milan. He was mostly a sub, but in the famous 6-0 drubbing of Inter, he scored a hat-trick. He never did anything else and was sold to Atalanta. I don't even know where he is now...

I guess this deserves it's own thread but Milan Baros is one of those guys who plays super for his national team (or at least did at the Euros) but was offloaded by his club last summer due to his disapointing club form.

Darko Kovacevic scored plenty of goals for Juventus when he became a starter due some injuries at the club. After that, Juventus seldomly used him again.

Kluivert had a few good games with Newcastle in the UEFA Cup last year.

Erik Bo Anderson scored a double off the bench for Rangers to put it Celtic big time - 97 or 98 I believe. He did little else for the club and after leaving complained that Gazza had taken a pee on his leg at the training ground. :-)
But for one evening he could have been elected Mayor of the Blue half of Glasgow.

Amavisca for Real Madrid. I never thought much of the guy but he had that, a couple of splendid afternoons.

Neil Mellor ;)
Hardly EPL quality, but scored in that incredibly important Liverpool - Olympiacos match, as well as being vital in both goals in the Liverpool - Arsenal win (both 04-05 season)

So true. If he could maybe get into some rythem and resurrect his form at Barca years ago then maybe he could earn a call-up. But I highly doubt that will happen.

Kanu wasn't bad, but he certainly didn't live up to early promise.
Reyes seems to be headed in that direction, I regret to say.

For all his shortcomings at Manchester United, Diego Forlan will be fondly remembered by most of the Old Trafford faithful for not only his high workrate but 2 games:
2 goals vs. Liverpool (even though one was an open net after a Dudek error and the other was a deflected shot)
a winner vs. Chelsea deep into injury time in a season where every point mattered en route to the EPL title

forland was la liga top scorer though. i think that qualifies as more then one or two memorable games.
however, if this is meant to be one player being a huge disappointement at one team and wherever else he played being ignored, i could name dosens of players. bergkamp and pancev being the obvious ones. zamorano and salas also.

I think Kanu is at least ten years older then his passports says.
