There's another thread for potential trade fodder on DC United's roster. This thread is for potential trade targets on other teams.

Here's one thought: Columbus is going to do some serious house-keeping this off-season. They had a terrible season and now they've got a new coach. Sigi is going to make some trades. They've got a lot of forwards and a lot of goalkeepers. If United wanted to, I'd have to think one or two Columbus Crew players would make highly realistic (even probable) trade targets.

I wouldn't want Wolyniec with his MetroStink. But I'd look pretty seriously at Knox Cameron, Cornell Glen, Marcus Storey and Jamal Sutton - some because they could help us right away, some for depth.

Cornell Glen also has MetroStink.

We need outside mids as well. How about seeing if we can re-tread Stephen Armstrong? Or even get Chris Henderson (to stay longer than merely on paper)?

Some size at forward would be nice. Cameron is huge but is nowhere near the player he was touted to become as a youngster. Is it possible that, with Chivas bringing in so many more offensive players, we could bring in Thiago Martins again? The guy has been here before and knows the system.

We also need quality wing defenders with some speed. Doesn't Ryan Cochrane play out there? He didn't play much this year, but he was used often last season. Any chance the Revs would part with James Riley?

If the Revs don't lose any central mids, they might be willing to part with Dorman for very little. I like him as a depth player.

They also have 3 nice left-sided players who fit a 3-5-2...Franchino, Marshall, and the guy who scored that great goal then killed his knee against the Mutts, whose name embarassingly escapes me. If they want to stick with 3 in the back, and only one wide player on a side, they might be willing to trade one of them for one of our central defenders.

Also, remember back when Chris Gbandi was in college, and the BS college mavens were assuring us he would be the Nats' answer at left back? My understanding is that Dallas isn't happy with him, in part because he's too eager to go on offensive forays, and he neglects his defensive responsibilities. He may be better suited for a 3-5-2 than a 4-4-2, and may need a change of scenery.

i was decidely unimpressed with Cameron at the last reserve match. he's big but doesn't play like it.

The last thing we need is more forwards.

Moreno, Quaranta, Adu, Esky, Filomeno, Walker.

That's 6 for 2 spots.

Obviously, Q can't play wide midfield, and Esky's status is still uncertain, but you'd have to think that trading some offense for defense has to be considered.

Also, due to salary cap, moving Dema or Olsen for a true D-mid destroyer would help.

I love that guy for his fire and versatility (and his underrated skill level), but I think the Revs would let Cancela go for cap and system reasons before they parted with Dorman.

Metrostink nonwithstanding, I'd have to take a hard look at Johnny Walker.

Not if we trade Freddy. That would the last guy we need, Freddy owns him.

Matt Jordan....looked sharp when we played Columbus late in the season and we could probably get him on the cheap.

Khano Smith

Pretty sure he suffered a severe injury in that last playoff game as well...don't know the extent of the injury but it didn't look good on video and he had to be stretchered off the field.

I thought it was Jaime that owns Johnny Walker. Remember the ball Moreno took from Walker last year, which prompted the phrase "Johnny Walker, you just got BURNED."

As far as keeper targets, how about Brad Guzan? Westerhof didn't seem to show complete confidence in him towards the end before his injury, and to me, a tall keeper like that is exactly what we need.

Would Chivas want Rimando, or is that pie in the sky?

Metrostink nonwithstanding, I'd have to take a hard look at Johnny Walker. This could lead to a much more confident group up front next year - after all the scoring Freddy and Jaime will do on him in practice......

I like Dunivent (sp?), I think he'd do well on our team. Chris Henderson would be awesome, but he'd only last one year so you'd have to figure that into a decision, same with Mark Chung.
I'd love to snag Curtin, as much as I hate him, but I don't see that happening - however, Guppy is their GM now, so he may just trade their best defender, you never know.
We really need a real goalie.
American goalies, once all the rage, seem to be diminishing in ability, I can't think of one in MLS I'd want. Let me rephrase that - not one whose team would let them go. I love Garlick, but I think his days are almost done. Joe Bazooka ain't going anywhere. Reis can go die in a fire, ditto Thornton, who I once thought was the second best MLS goalie. Matt Jordan was a has-been since just after he was promising. Not sure what we're gonna do to upgrade there, I still think Troy is 1-2 years away.

It may be pie in the sky, but I'd love to have Guzan. He's still a young keeper and makes young keeper mistakes, but his fundamentals are there and he understands the position very well. But if Chivas is smart they'll realize what they've got and keep him. Guzan is the kind of guy you can build your defense around.

What about RSL? I think we've got a lot players that RSL could use (whether Ellinger wants them or not is another thing). Is there anyone on RSL that'd make a good trade target? Fitzpatrick has been pretty under-used there. And I'd give Gregorio a look, but I doubt Ellinger would trade him.

Santino Quaranta for Brad Guzan and a draft pick. Book it.

Freddy Adu for Chad Marshall and Jamal Sutton. Book it. I was impressed with Sutton the last couple of times that I saw him.

GK: Guzan, Henry Ring?

D: Borchers, Cochrane, Yi?, Leonard Griffin? We need better marking backs.

M: Fitzpatrick, Storey, Sutton, Gregorio -- basically all outside mids with pace and skill.

F: Glen, Cunningham...we need speed.

Kovalenko or Olsen should certainly fetch a Gregorio or a Storey plus much more.

Moreno for Cunningham and Borchers!? I'd do it. Trade Kovalenko for Marcus Storey. Start Storey on the left, Cunningham & Quaranta up top, and we'd scare the crap out of other MLS teams.
