I'm glad they made it! Congratulations! I've actually seen them play. I've been to Vladivostok a couple of times, very nice people.

This team was in the top Russian division about 10 years ago, along with their neighbors Okhean (or something like that) Nakodka. I'm not aware of any reason why they wouldn't be eligible for UEFA Cup or Champions League - is there any special rule barring Russian teams that aren't on the European continent?

Teams from Israel and probably the Asian part of Turkey have been in UEFA competitions but they obviously don't have the same travel / time zone issues.

Here's the final Russian League Table from 1993:

its not only the geographical position but the quality of the stadium, the corruption that is maybe in the club(their president was murder one year ago!)their financial problems, after all why kazakh teams were not able to participate in last uefa years?!

That never stopped Atletico Madrid.
Although perhaps the difference is that Jesus Gil y Gil killed people, rather than being killed himself.

Didn't have any problems, but that might've been 'cuz I had a large entourage with me at all times :D I suppose I wouldn't be as lucky if I go alone. When I went (which was some time ago) it seemed to be a highly militarized town for western standards, but that's probably because of its military port. Driving there is of course a challenge, but so is in LA :D
