What kind of individual stats would you like to have access to for Germany 2006 and tournaments in general? I'm posting a list with some of the stuff I personally would like to compile during the next world cup, in addition to the conventional stats (Minutes, Goals, Assists, Cards, etc.). I included explanations, and I know some of them are kind of obvious, but I wanted to make sure they are comprehensive (and I also know they are nothing new).
I have been exploring this stuff for a few years, but due to lack of time and resources the only tournament that I have compiled in full was the European Cup of Nations in 2000. Unfortunately, those records are back home many miles away, handwritten in paper, and probably lost by now, so please don't inquire, although if you do, I'll try my best to remember things :) .
I'd love to get some help and critics to make these reports better. Thanks in advance for posting questions, items of you own, and corrections.
Examples of ChaChaFut's stats:
Goals per 90 min. The ratio of goals scored per every 90 min, as opposed to goals per game. Example: Oleg Salenko played 3 matches and scored 6 goals in 1994, but he scored 2.7 Goals per 90min.
Assists. An assist is a complete pass made to a player who:
- Only has to face the goalkeeper and scores after receiving the pass.
- Is in or near the penalty area and scores without having to face and dribble/fight a defender before facing the keeper.
- In general, has a certain advantage to score and does not have to create the chance himself.
(And I'm sure you have your own concepts. Happy to hear them.)
Scoring chances created. A scoring chance is any pass that would be an assist, even if the receiving player does not score.
Scoring percentage. The percentage of goals scored over the total shots taken.
Free kick percentage. The percentage of goals scored via direct free kick over the total direct free kicks taken.
Balls recovered. A ball recover is made when a player recovers posession of the ball for his team, but not when he finds the ball on a lucky bounce, for instance.
Balls lost. Anytime a player looses posession of the ball for his team, except on shots wide, incomplete long passes, or balls forced out-of-bounds by an opposite player.
Defensive stats
-Deflected passes (that would generate a chance for the other team)
-Clearances
-Blocked/deflected shots
-Saves (for field players)
Saves. A save is a shot on goal that the goalkeeper prevents from becoming a goal.
Save Percentage. The ratio of saves over the other team's total shots on goal.
(these last two for goalkeepers)
Assists per 90 min. / Scoring chances created per 90 min. / Recovers per game / etc. Same concept as goals per 90 min.
