"Celtic have announced a share offer designed to raise £15m to fund their new football academy and reduce the football club's debts." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/4386814.stm

This isn't the first, not even the second, but the THIRD time they have been forced to go pleading to their fans, cap in hand. Will you be donating money yet again? Come on Bhoys, dig deep...

I'll get things started:

Football fans always end up digging in their pockets for the club, generally that's what being a football fan is all about...the good news you do not need to contribute.

They had an excellent result today, well I think so, clawed their way back into the game for a well deserved draw.

They were unhappy with the sections of our support that rustle sweet wrappers all match long. I agree. They will be coming back in December.

Don't get me started on people who continually leave their seats during a match to Eat/drink/bet/pee/smoke/wander etc,etc

I have one guy along from me that must spend 50% of ball in play time getting me to stand up.

A clarification from Mr. Lawwell from www.celticfc.net

Chief Executive on share issue

Newsroom Staff

CELTIC Chief Executive Peter Lawwell today spoke to the Celtic website to clear up some misunderstandings that had arisen in the press following last Friday’s announcement of a £15million share issue.

The Chief Executive said: “We are most grateful to the supporters and investors who have made such an important contribution to Celtic in the past and we are pleased to be able to offer existing shareholders and new potential shareholders the opportunity to take part in this newly announced share issue.

““It is very important however that I make it clear that the new share issue represents a chance for supporters/investors to acquire a stake in the Club. There is absolutely no obligation on fans to invest, it is clearly an individual’s choice to do so, having read through the prospectus that we are issuing shortly. The share issue aims to benefit Celtic’s infrastructure for the future and we are delighted to give fans the opportunity to get involved.

“It is also important to note and record our appreciation to Dermot Desmond once again for his continued commitment to Celtic as Dermot has kindly agreed to underwrite up to £10m of this issue.”

And Peter Lawwell also stressed that claims the club promised a new training facility of the kind they are now planning, through the previous chare issue, are “absolutely untrue.”

He said: “Such comments are simply wrong and misleading. The previous share issue was a great success and we were grateful for the support it received.

“As we said at the time in 2001, money raised then would be used to develop a number of areas including our multi-media and communications division, our core professional football operation, scouting, coaching, training and youth development operations. That was done.

“In terms of our investment in our youth development programme in the four or five years since then, we have seen a great return, with the emergence of young talent such as Maloney, McManus, Beattie, Wallace, Marshall and McGeady.

“This new share issue will allow the next step to be taken with one of our core aims being the creation of Celtic’s new training facility at our preferred site in Lennoxtown.”

The prospectus will be issued shortly to our existing shareholders. New investors can obtain a copy by telephoning 0870 702 0192.

You can either buy share or not, they are being underwritten by Desmond, it's he that is likely to have to contribute most
