Hoffenheim is playing quite well in the last weeks
and i didn´t found a Hoffenheim thread.
Maybe this one can be made the
"TSG Hoffenheim thread".

No need for a Hoffenheim thread.

But they really scare me in the meantime...

Join the club. I told you I was worried about them and they are just hot.

They'll be Bundie 1 soon anyway, but this is ridiculous.

I also think so, if not next season, then the season after.

In summer they overthrew their old transfer policy
and invested a lot. Behind Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg
they are the 4th biggest spender in Germany with about 20 million €,
but in conctrast to Wolfsburg and us they didn´t earn anything with transfer.

What i like is, that they didn´t invest the money
in old experienced players, but in young talents.
Demba Ba and Chinedu Obasi, Luiz Gustavo
and Carlos Eduardo (most expensive buy in 2nd BL history,
hell, for him they even spent 2 million € more
than we spent for Diego 2 years ago) are all younger than 22 years
and in the team there are 20 players younger than 25 years.
So there´s some potential for the future.

I don´t have a problem with them yet, because they aren´t a contender,
but it seems, that the club is on a sucessfull way.

Exactly - buy young, sell high. They've done an impressive job and I wish them luck, but not so much luck they get promoted at FC Köln expense.

So in what way does it differ from the way Bayer and VW have poured money into Leverkusen and WoB..?

I personally think that we need guys like Hopp to invest in the German teams. What´s the problem with increasing the quality of German football? I don´t see it. Of course it sucks becauseit is definitely a destortion of the competition, but as long as we don´t have English circumstances, I am happy with it.

Yes, the are some similarities.
The only differences are, that Hoffenheim is a village
and Mr. Hopp is a private person and no company like Bayer or VW.

Good point. There´s a big difference between the Hoffenheim case
and people like Glazer, who bought ManUtd, put the club into debts
by writing the buying sum into their balance and expect every year
a certain return on investment.
Not to speak of some investors, who use clubs for slave trading
(oh, i meant player trading) and after business
they leave a destroyed club behind
(happened to some Brazilian trational teams).

So we can agree on Hopp being acceptable as long as he builds the club from scratch..?

Does everyone agree?

I've always felt that way.

I can see that happen ... so you better don't wish them anymore luck hence! :-)

I'd a rather see a traditional club like Köln or a smaller traditional club like Fürth (which is doing well every season despite the 3rd lowest league budget) get promoted than such a "Retortenclub"!

I don't respect Hopp's Hoffenheim because I think of it as an old man's folly (very much unlike Bayer Leverkusen, for example, which is a great marketing tool), and I would have preferred it if at least he had lost his heart to a club with a genuine fanbase and preexisting infrastructure, but I don't have a real problem with it all. What's clear is that Hopp is no Abramovich but a respectable and thoughtful businessman who can spend on whatever he likes, be it somewhat childish or not.

Didn't he grow up in the area? I seem to remember that he was a member of the club when he was a kid.

Yes, he is from the area and has personal connections to the club.

Big game this week against Footy's boys. if they pull off that upset, well blow me down and call me Hopp's new monkey.

Might be doing just that. If there is going to be an upset in this round of the Cup, I think his matchup is the best chance for it...... :o

Hopefully the loss knocked some sense into Hoffy and they realized they aren't ready to step up to the big league just yet.

They aren't far off. Don't let the final score fool you. That match was a battle.

From reading the reports sounded like Bvb dominated. Damn, they need to cool off.
