In 2006, Maccabi Netanya was bought by the Jewish-German business man named Daniel Jammer. After buying the team, Jammer brought many new players to the team, both Israelis and foreigners.

If I remember right, he intended to sign David Beckham from Real ... what made me really smile. ;)

Letn him play with his money..The big question is, what happens when Hopp no longer is around?

He might get a heart failure tomorrow eh?

Yeah, but Hopp is building a 30,000 seat stadium in Sinsheim.

The people in that area will embrace that team.....

They may not sell out a lot, but neither does 1860 Muenchen, Unterhaching, Kaiserslautern, VfL Wolfsburg, etc......

I never heard about a town with a stadium big enough for their entire population before.

There are actually a few in Europe.....

Well, can you name a few of them..?

Having spent my entire life in Europe Iīve never run across one of them.

Off the top of my head:

Or Aue to stay within Germany...

Wikipedia is your friend:

It's also called the Schalke of France.

I think Heerenveen's stadium is bigger than the population of the town as well.

Isn't that how Bayer supported Leverkusen until just recently??? I mean, most of us know that's why they still play in a stadium that only seats 22,500........

I realize this is an old post, but Bayer recently announced plans to expand the stadium to over 30,000 seats.

And the stadium is paid by Bayer...The thing is that Bayer used to sponsor two clubs (Bayer Uerdingen..) but as they closed down in Uerdingen B.Leverkusen gets all the money (€25m p.a)

Thanks for all the responses. I would not have had any time to look up those things today. I just knew there are a few towns in Europe with stadiums that hold more than the population of the town. :)

if you look at their pictures, all of their fans are either small kids or old people...I'm sure it's very fierce... man (if we're not promoted) i can't wait to kick their asses....Heimspiel in Hoffenheim! :D
that's bad when a Freiburg fan can say such words...

i can see Hoffenheim be a reasonable team in 5 years maybe even in the 1. BuLi... He seems to spend his money on fundamental things (youth system) and attractive facilities... If Hopp and Rangnick stay around this team will have a good future (but maybe not permanent).

It's bad when a Freiburg fan jumps at the opportunity to pick on "minnows" even if he is "kidding."

Pretty f#cking bad.

What? You can't wait to kick Gladbach's and Mainz' asses too??

What's up with that?? Don't see you mentioning them???

Kidding or not, you'd better not talk too quickly. I'm sure Herr Hopp is going to buy some better players for Hoffenheim for the coming season.

Hell, he might come for some of YOURS!!

Better not talk too quickly........
