Isn't that how Bayer supported Leverkusen until just recently??? I mean, most of us know that's why they still play in a stadium that only seats 22,500........
Well, Bayer Leverkusen grew without much money from Leverkusen though and they successfully market themselve without the company at this very moment, plus they have played in the 2 BLs for a long time now.

I agree that WOB would be down without VW, but actually the whole city would not exist if it was not for KDF/VW.
And where would 96 be without TUI and AWD? (this is like a penalty kick for you, shoot).
Maybe WOb will be big at some point of time. we'll see. But I actually respect that few fans they have for not turning to bayern or BVB as it happened a lot in the 90ies in this region.

for the record: I am not a fan of the city of Mannheim and do not wish it well in any endeavor.

After a certain girl just broke my heart (:(), I will just pretend Hannover doesn't exist now.

In the early 90s they had attendances in the hundreds. They all jumped on the bandwaggon during the 90s.

Their streets don't have names, ffs!

But I guess Waldhof is ok. Of course I despise the average Eintracht fan already, so I guess I don't need to love them.

Absolutely... I saw Leverkusen play in 1989 against Kaiserslautern. The place was a ghost town.. My cousins and I almost had the entire stand to ourselves.

Bayer AG pumped incredible 200 Mio Euro into Bayer04 over the last 4-5 years IIRC. They had even higher wages than Borussia Dortmund (70 Mio Euro a year). Now they are trying to stop those heavy losses since app. 2 years and cut wages in a massive way.

But hey, even those 40-50 Mio a year were well spended by Bayer AG as marketing research showed that the ad effect is even higher. In 2001/02 (though an exceptional season) Bayer AG would have needed to spend app. 150 Mio Euro on conventional ads to get the same effect as with their football daugther. So 50 Mio a year doesn't sound that much....!

Btw, it's no surprise that within the AG Bayer04 is sometimes called "the advertising daugther of Bayer AG". ;-)

SAP founder and billionaire Dietmar Hopp wants a Bundesliga team in the region Mannheim.
The patron of TSG Hoffenheim, which he brought from a lower league
than district league to Regionalliga in the last 15 years, has big plans.
He wants TSG Hoffenheim, SV Sandhausen and Astoria Walldorf to fusionate to one team
and bring it to Bundesliga in the next 3years.
Furthermore he plans to invest 50 million € for a new stadium
with a capacity of 30000.

DFL brought him on the idea to build a club by fusionating with other teams,
because they said to Hopp, that the Dietmar-Hopp-Stadium (5000 seats),
he donated the club in 1999, is not ready for the Bundesliga.
He also thinks about involving tradional team Waldhof Mannheim in his project.

This Project will never be more than a project, Eintracht, FSV, SVW and Kickers owns this region.

Or we see (when they move up to the 1st. league) ghost games like in Wolfsburg - excuse - but this is a fact.

I quote myself, a footballteam needs time to grow, but the team needs one more, played in the hearts of the fans.

Like F.C. Schalke 04 e.V., B. Doofmund bcbs (bankcrupt but stocks), Cologne, Gladbach or this Club who plays in the same town like 1860, Hannover, Braunschweig, or e.G. St Pauli (Grown by D.K.P.).

Interesting, what he says there.
he wants to orientate on Freiburg with good youth players
and not at glamor clubs, like e.g. Real Madrid.

DFB accepts Hopp´s plan and the new team will be called
FC Kurpfalz Heidelberg, HSW Heidelberg 06 or soemthing like this.

It´s a fusion of TSG Hoffenheim (Regionalliga Süd), SV Sandhausen (Oberliga Baden-Württemberg) and FC Astoria Walldorf (Verbandsliga Nordbaden).
The fusion can happen in summer 2006.

We should not compare Hopp with Abramovich.

Hopp is a noble, social orientaded self made billionaire who, beside many charity activities in other social areas, began to sponsor his local footballteam years ago because he loves football and his region. That was a question of heart, not of business.

As SAP established through the years to maybe the biggest business solution software company in the world and founder Hopp resigns more and more from daily business, he now has much time and money to spent.

During the last years his team had one or another success in DFB Cup and is cutting the edge to 2nd Bundesliga. Now DFB said that the small stadium is not ok for 2nd league consession.
His contribution to his club reached a point, where decisions had to be made.Stay as a little amateurclub with him as sponsor or take the next step.

And now he decided to take the next step as only a billionaire can do.

But that is not for business reasons. When his first intention would be to make money with football he would have bought for example shares of Dortmund or ManU.

His target is to establish his beloved local Club in the Bundesliga, knowing that there are about 1 Million people in the area which are football fans and have no Bundesligateam, knowing that the fanbase of only his team is to small and therefore searching for a fusion of three local clubs.

For me Hopp´s plans are ok.

This is going to be great!
The club will become the most hated club in Germany. I'm excited! :D

That´s true.
I chose the title to provocate a bit.

He didn´t buy any superstars so far, but bring the club
from promotion to promotion with many players of the region.

But it takes time to build up a fanbase,
IMO the thing go too fast, but we´ll see.

Don´t want to have a second Wolfsburg.

TSG Hoffenheim's new stadium:

It's going to be build in Sinsheim (Hoffenheim is a part of Sinsheim) and will hold 30.000 (!!!).

Sinsheim has a population of about 35.000 and right now the TSG averages about 3.000 a game.

If you ask yourself 'Where is Sinsheim?', here's a map for you:

It's situated about 30 KM away from Heilbronn and Heidelberg, 50 to Mannheim and 60 to Karlsruhe. You can also see Ramstein Air Base on the left corner.

Funny thread, from what I've read here (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=391555&root=europe&cc=5739), he appears to be the anti-Abramowich.
