I'm looking to replace an IO Gear 4-port Keyboard/Video/Mouse switch I have at home with something that works with newer mice on the market. This switch does not like scroll mice and really doesn't like optical scroll mice that are USB->PS2 wired.
Anybody out there use one of these at work or home?

Same here. I've got an optical + scroll wheel with USB -> PS2 in it right now. I had a wireless mouse whose receiver plugged in via PS2 that was working previously and stopped, but that might be a battery issue.
I haven't looked at any newer ones that might allow for better wireless mouse connectivity with USB receivers. Has anyone tried these?

VNC. IMO, way better than a KVM, especially because the computer doesn't have to be local. Free, too, if you have enough network bandwidth (and you probably do).
