Pressure Mounting On Kaiserslautern's Henke
The pressure is beginning to mount on Kaiserslautern coach Michael Henke, who has more than just poor results to worry about ahead of the visit of Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
Henke could be facing further disciplinary action from the German Football Association (DFB) after swearing at Rot-Weiss Erfurt players during his side's 4-2 DFB-Pokal win over the third division club on Tuesday night.
He was initially ordered to pay 10,000 euros (£6,800) in compensation, but the DFB may be lining up an even heavier punishment after asking the coach to produce a statement explaining his actions.
With the club also struggling in the Bundesliga, Henke is feeling the heat despite being given the backing of Kaiserslautern president Rene C. Jaggi.
A 4-1 loss at Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend has left the side 15th in the standings and Jaggi's patience is likely to be tested to the full if the Red Devils drop into the bottom three by losing at the weekend.
Henke's Leverkusen counterpart Michael Skibbe is also under pressure and is still searching for his first win in charge of the side since becoming the permanent successor to Klaus Augenthaler.
However, there were positive signs in the 3-2 defeat to Hamburg in the cup on Wednesday and Skibbe is confident his players will turn the corner this weekend.
"We missed a hatful of chances against Hamburg and we'll get those chances again in Kaiserslautern," he said.
"We look to craft out our chances and it takes a lot of effort, while the opponents go for the long ball."
Injuries to Carsten Ramelow and Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker will force the Bayer coach to play with just three at the back.
