Short article from UEFA.com, but with a couple interesting points:
http://www.uefa.com/uefa/Keytopics/kind=524288/newsId=358604.html
- 44 referees still in contention, which means that two have been dropped from the initial list of 46 (Frisk and ?)
- 111 assistant referees in contention, which means that the crews are far from finalized (otherwise, there'd be 88, right?). The Stott/Strickland/Barkey trio might not be the final group the US puts forward. Is Lowry or someone else still being considered? No matter what, considering 111 ARs when you're only going to take about 60 seems very strange...especially when the CR ratio is 44 to 30.
- There's a workshop in March which all the candidates will attend. That means the decision as to who will officiate at the tournament will be taken MUCH later than in past World Cups (usually mid December or early January).
