I'm kind of surprised that there has been no thread of appreciation for either Jaime or ABMOD, so far.

I know Jaime hasn't been productive the last couple of years and Richie is not the most popular player DC ever had, but they have both been just as much an integral part of our three championship teams, as has Eddie.

I for one hope they don't come back to haunt us in the regular season or the playoffs. Godspeed to you both and I hope that ALL of our great ex-players will come back to retire as members of DC United!

Jaime is the best this league has ever had. He'll be missed in DC.

Jaime Moreno....The best holding forward in the league.

As much as he's been dissed on this forum, I believe he's going to come back and bite us in the ass..........

Good luck to both of you in everything except for playing soccer. May your careers in Scumland be as short as a Jersey girl's perm.

Jaime Moreno is DC United's all-time leading scorer.

He has great skill and great moves.

He has been misunderstood by many DC United fans.

I wish him the best of luck.

Richie Williams is a winner.

Richie Williams is a fighter.

Richie Williams has been misunderstood by many DC United fans.

I wish him the best of luck.

Have not seen much of United since HTS got cancelled in my hometown but when I did, I sure enjoyed watching Jaime. He was something special.

Richie ... well, what can you say about him... a fighter and a terrier.

Good luck to both. It will be weird watching Jaime play for the Metrostars but that is life.

Way back in 1996, Jaime scored one of the greatest MLS goals ever - dribbling through defenders, faking a shot, then beating the goalie - and was bizarrely entirely ignored for even a nomination for goal of the year that season.

Jaime is on the downside of his career. BUT, in his day, he was better than any other player in MLS by a country mile. He was an EPL-caliber forward playing in a league that was still developing. No player in this league has ever been so dominant - and no player ever will be again. The defending and skill level has improved too much - which is part of the reason Jaime himself is now much less effective.

And he did his dominating for DC, playing great matches in the 96 and 97 MLS Cups and absolutely terrorizing the league in 98 and 99. Even in 2000, as the team crumbled around him, Jaime had an excellent season. We will always remember his dominance - and he will be missed.

Richie was the heart and soul of the salad day teams of DC United. He did the dirty work in midfield that allowed our skill players to shine, and was duly rewarded (finally) with National Team callups under Bruce Arena. After leaving DC for a year and returning, Richie was one of the firiest players and leaders on the team. He refused to accept losing in a manner that should have been taken to heart by the entire team.

This may be the 2nd time he'll be leaving us, but we're going to miss him too.

I hope Petke can play golf. Richie and Jaime played in the United for DC charity event this past August.

They will be missed and are a big part of United's history.

you guys are highly over-rating moreno.

he is not the best ever MLS forward. I can think of several I'd rather have.

Eddie Pope got a separate thread. I think Jaime and Richie both deserve their own threads too.

Mods, can you please split them out?

Something Jaime doesn't often get credit for is playing well in his first SIX years not just his first four IMO. His first four were certainly his best but compared to the way he played this past year, 2001 was not bad. I believe he had 9 goals or 11 goals or something like that. And he always took players on and could run by players. The July game up in New England where Tino had two and Jaime scored on a corner remains in my mind. I recall him running right by Heaps on the left side and playing a prefect ball to Tino who buried it. Don't sell Jaime short by saying, "Thanks for the first four years." One thing I will say though is that I was disappointed with the lack of heart and desire he showed this year. Though he's not the only guilty one of that.

As for Richie, I thank him for all his hard work here.

THis is not a DCU memory but a USNAts memory:
Do you remember Jaime blowing by Jeff Agoos at RFK to score for Bolivia at the US Cup? LAter, when I heard that the same person, Moreno, who was playing for Middlesboro (sp?) in the EPL was coming to OUR mediocre team to play alongside his compatriot Marco Etcheverry, I couldn't believe it. His arrival turned the season around for DCU.

MLS Cup 96: HE should have been the MVP: He set up, or drew fouls for all of the goals scored.

MLS Cup 97: Again spectacular, he WAS righteously voted MVP of the match.

He had an off-year in 98 (looked out of shape) but then came back with a vengeance in 99 to help give DCU another championship.

He'e the best forward United has ever had and the best forward the MLS has ever had. On top of that, he's a pretty friggin' cool guy (let us not forget that he was in Washingtonian's 25 Most Beautiful People list this year).

It will be a long time before we see a talent like that at forward for DCU or MLS.

If Moreno is biting someone in the ass, it's going to be from his prone postion on the turf. The entire league knows that you've just got to give him some early stick and he will pu$$y out. Hell, foul him in the box if you must -- he'll only make 1/3 pks anyway! The way DC is shaping up, nobody, least of all don Jaime, is going to relish the thought of battling us on the pitch.

Buh-bye, Jaime. You wore the kit proudly and we were proud of you for three and a half years. For me, ever since you wimped out on your team mates in the USOC semifinal against NER (yes, I know you got chopped by Pierce with no foul called -- but did you have to abandon your team mates with a stupid second yellow?) you've steadily lost my respect for you AS A PLAYER. Good luck in New Jersey, you're going to need it.
