Was it ever resolved? I never heard different.

I know they conditionally agreed to not pursue a new CBA until the end of 2005, and we're pretty much at the end of 2005, and I've not seen any media mention of it.

Supposedly, Landon Donovan and Sunil hammered out a deal on the flight back from Guatamala and all that is remaining is to finalize this... I am too lazy to find the reference, but I think the original article said that finalization was expected by the end of October...

Let me get this straight. Landon Donovan was negotiating the terms under which the team would play in Germany?! ;)

I'm totally misinterpreting you here but it should be revealing to alot of the haters that Landon is the team leader in yet another area. Runs the offense, get's the armband sometimes, reported to be a lockerroom leader, and apparently the union man.

Landon Donovan is going to kick ass in Germany. You heard it here first.

If anyone hears anything official, post it here!
It's not like the media is all over it... ;)

I just think it was a case of the rest of the team knowing damn well that Landon wouldn't agree to play in Germany unless the deal was perfect. ;)

I couldn't find the article after 15 minutes on Google, US Soccer, and US Soccer Players Assn sites.

Memory is a little fuzzy, but what I recall is that they came up with an agreement that runs through next summer's World Cup. The story profiled how Donovan was instrumental in getting a positive tone back into the negotiations. On the plane ride back from a qualifier (Panama?) apparently Landon spent a good deal of time with a US Soccer official (Sunil Gulati?) talking through a deal. The impression I got after having read the article was, "OK. This is resolved now. I don't need to worry about it impacting the World Cup."

Sorry that's from memory and not an article. If someone with better sleuthing skills than I could step up, it would be appreciated.

I don't have time to look it up right now, but try SI.com. I'm pretty sure it was a Grant Wahl article.

Here is the original story. The players could still strike the World Cup?

Hmmm. The article ends by saying the deal will be signed soon. Anyone found anything saying it actually WAS signed?

The players and U.S. Soccer (and their reps) hammered out financial terms a week later in a meeting at the Los Angeles International Airport. The numbers are complex -- a 50 to 60 percent pay increase during the current cycle if the U.S. performs as it did during the last cycle, and a 20 to 37.5 percent hike between '07 and '10 depending on next summer's World Cup results -- but both sides say a signed deal is not far away.

"I'd like to get it done as soon as possible," Donovan says. "There are little issues that are important, licensing and all that. So I'd say realistically by the end of October."

Is there any chance of the agreement blowing up? "No chance," Donovan says. "At least I hope not."
