Alright people, its coming down to crunch time for the stadium. The vote will take place tomorrow in the Toronto city council. I strongly recommend that you contact your local councillor by phone or by email to let them know that you support the stadium. Here is a list of all the councillors:
http://app.toronto.ca/im/council/councillors.jsp
You might also want to write a letter to the editor at the Sun, Star, Globe or Post.
Remember to point out that the most important part of the stadium is its use during the 2007 FIFA WYC and that the CSA is planning to bid on 2008 Olympic qualifying, the 2009 Gold Cup and the 2011 Womens' World Cup. This stadium is a lot more than just an MLS stadium
If we want this thing to happen we should take action now!!

Also worth pointing out that it isn't just a pro soccer stadium. The City of Toronto will have full access to the stadium most of the time and will be actively using it from a mass participation community access standpoint particularly in the winter time when there will be a bubble in place over the field and also during big events at Exhibition place like the CNE and Caribana. This stadium would be a major asset in infrastructure terms to the City of Toronto.

So I called 14 of the offices. Not a single one was there as usual. However I have heard the John Filion and Rob Ford are voting in favour of the stadium thus far and voting against it is Raymond Cho. So I asked mr cho to give us a call back to discuss his apparent beef with the stadium.

I've sent a few emails. Heard nothing back which isn't a huge surprise. Rob Ford is good news because he's a potential right wing candidate for mayor next year against the left wing incumbent David Miller. He tends to oppose big spending projects but obviously doesn't see this issue as one to attack the mayor on. Cho appears to be from Scarborough so may see it as not benefiting his ward very much. The Toronto Zoo appears to be his big thing probably because of it's location in his end of TO. Also he's ex-NDP and ran as an Independent Liberal against an official Liberal candidate at the last federal election so maybe has some sort of personal grudge against Miller, Pantalone and/or Joe Volpe and co.

This Globe article mentions Rob Ford as being un-decided and that there is a still a move to get the stadium at Downsview. However it also mentions that the vote is expected to pass in favour of the stadium.
From todays Globe -
Council set to Approve Stadium Deal

Anti-Soccer writer Dave Perkins has written another article condemning the deal, mispresenting the facts once again and ignoring the Canadian women's teams altogher, but I won't bother to post that article here, its not worth it. However, the Toronto Sun had this article in favour of the stadium, entitled "Soccer Deal is a Good One" and lo and behold, this guy actually has his facts straight!:

Interesting that there has been nothing in Corriere Canadese this week after the series of articles that appeared in recent weeks. Suggests to me that Peter Li Preti has to speak out at the meeting for Downsview and vote against it to save face but really isn't pushing things that hard. We'll find out soon enough I guess.

He's a potential candidate for mayor next year. My guess would be when he saw it was safe he voted No just in case he can make political capital from it later. Politics can be like that.
