I know very little about their soccer team, having only watched 2 of their qualifying matches.

If someone wouldn't mind offering up their opinion on....

Scotland's style of play at home
Scotland's Best Attacking player
Scotland's best midfielder
Scotland's best defender
Quality of their Goal Keeper
How they attack (flank, middle, boom ball)

and anything else that might be important for a yank to know about them!

thanks!

If Rab Douglas is playing you wont have to worry about the quality of their goalkeeper.

I asked Landon Donovan this question last night. His response: "They suck!"

I watched a couple of their WC qualifying games on Setanta recently, they have David Weir of Everton in the back who is quite old, Fletcher of Man Utd is probably their most important play in the middle, they also have Neil McCann who plays more of a DM role. Kenny Miller of Wolves is their main striker, he missed a few bad chances against Belarus. Hartley is also another pretty good striker they have. Another player they have is James McFadden also of Everton, right sided middie. Oh yeah and Barry Fergussen.
Probably a line up like this:

Gordon
Alexander-Weir-Pressley-Dailly
McFadden-Fletcher-Fergussen-McCulloch
Miller-Hartley

thats not actually that bad. Love Fletcher to. As a lukewarm ManU fan, I hope he'll learn something from Claudio to bring back to Manchester.

Hartley typically doesn't start as striker, but as an attacking midfielder who pushes mainly up the middle or drifts out wide.

McCann won't start the game, hopefully, and we'd have Quashie start on the right ahead of McFadden, I'd say.

1. Decent I guess
2. Never seen them
3. See above
4. They don't have any, we netted 6 goals when we played them :D
5. Bad, he was to busy collecting balls from the goal :D
6. They can't :p

Let them score the first goal in the 1st half and give them a beating in the 2nd

You really think we'll see their frontline players, given the fact that they are out of the 06 qualifications and Moyes, Sir Alex, et al will be unwilling to allow their players to play? I wouldn't think the Scotland FA would want to buck the club managers at this time?

It's an official international date, so there will be no Club fixtures that day. Should be easier to get top-flight players than for the normal friendly.

I'd still think scotland is mainly interested in euro cup qualifying for 2008, so will be looking at some younger possibilities for when preparation begins....

There is no way that any club will "forbid" their players to come to us.

Whether or not some players pick up a freak training injury at the last minute, that's another matter.

I would assume that we'll see a near-full strength lineup. Perhaps 2 or 3 regulars left out to give new guys a chance but I don't think this will be treated as an experimental/B-team game.

This look like typical "bltleo" thread when I ask about your players...
I´m learning about your team and you about our european team.

I think it is great that we have many nationalities on the board and can inform each other..

Hopefully the Fletch plays a big game but the US squeaks out a win on the backs of Fredinho and Rossi... yea wishful thinking :)

I think this game will demonstrate how bad the FIFA World rankings are. I think Scotland is ranked something like #60 and we're #7. I think we'll win, but I see a 1-0 or 2-1 game, and it won't look pretty. I could also see a draw.

1. Not really any different to away. Brief summary is solid and strong at the back, quick breaks, generally play the ball on the deck. Formation and specific tactics have varied under Smith. In general it's Miller on his own upfront, with Hartley and McFadden supporting him from the wings.

2. McFadden. Good at dribbling, can take players on, skilful and can finish.

3. Fletcher. If the team allows him to dictate our play, then he is very good. He can be a bit quiet depending on how Ferguson decides to play. I hate the latter, as he's shite in my mind. Please break him.

4. Webster. Young, strong, consistant.

5. Gordon is very highly rated and has been superb. Tall, can get down quickly, great reactions.

6. Depends on formation. We basically play the ball through the middle and to the flanks.

Ferguson is the weak link and shouldn't even be in the team. Close him down and he will disappear, dragging our midfield down with him. He wants too much time on the ball and is far too predictable. http://img485.imageshack.us/img485/8549/wanker6or.gif
