It's far more entertaining than the champions league, for starters.

Exactly. If they stopped putting the 3rd place teams in then it would become a much better competition.
I always enjoyed UEFA cup games much more than Champions Leagues anyway. The teams were more enjoyable to watch, the away fans better and you got to go to weird and interesting places for away games.
Also in the UEFA cup you don't get the same few teams domminating it year after year, there is alot of variation from year to year.

If they stopped the 2,3 and 4th placed teams then we could talk about a real CL, obviously if Uefa hadn“t allowed this to happen the big teams that were constantly failing to reach the CL would probably by now be playing with each other in a separate competition.

even teams who fail in the last prelim round of the CL get a second bite of the cherry in the UEFA cup.
Allowing CL rejects into the tournie just ruined it.

Does anyone think they should let the winner of the UEFA cup into the champions league? im talking about a place in the 3rd qualifiying round not right into the group stage.

No, they shouldn't. The CL is for the best 1-4 teams of each country. If the UEFA-cup winner is not within the top 1-4 in his country they are not good enough for the CL.

How does that have anything to do with stopping the 3rd place CL group stage team from entering the UEFA cup?

I don't know, let's just go for quiet walks in the country.
For the same reason people play soccer - because they want to compete and win something. Teams get tired of playing their same old fellow countrymen and want an international challenge. Fans want to watch soccer and enjoy the international aspect. It all seems pretty natural. The games are scheduled midweek so they don't interfere with national league games. It's a win-win for everyone. If it offends or doesn't interest you, go for a quiet walk or read a book!

Easy to answer, if they want a real CL they have to do what i said, if they want a CL of the big guys this one is perfect, obviously i know UEFA won“t change the current format of the CL because its helping the big teams from the big nations, so there is no point to take away the "peanuts" (3rd placed teams getting to UEFA) from the teams that usually stay in this position, teams outside the big 3 or 5 if you want, providing them a final opportunitty to win an european trophy, if you ask me if i agree with this, obviously i am against but thats the way things are right now...

Hell, the situation has existed where even the winner of the *champions league* hasn't been eligible the next year, IIRC.

In my opinion, the Champions League should be reserved for the champions of domestic leagues, its intended purpose and also maybe allow the second placed team from the top 10 leagues in Europe. Other than that its second and third for the Uefa Cup. And the Cup winners go to the Cup Winners Cup. Just how it used to be.. What was wrong with that system? Today we have teams focusing on one certain competition with ignorance towards the others, Liverpool is a prime example. Sorry Reds, I really don't have anything against you in all honesty. But how can a team be the Champion of Europe if they're not the Champion of their own league? That's just an illogical statement if you ask me. For me the Champions Cup has certainly lost some of its prestige although it's still very interesting.
