Actually, the most interesting thing that Bruce said was the state of foreign players in the MLS. I agree-- While I believe the MLS has to have younger, talented players in their prime (Ruiz, Guevara), I liked those old foreign players who genuinely tried to help US soccer..Guys like Valderrama, Moreno, Stoichkov, Cienfuegos...All class acts.. Of course, I don't want to mention some of the embarassments..Like Ravelli, Campos, Hernandez, Hermosillo, Azizi, and my favorite--Mattheus. And, sometimes you have simply good players that don't stick around because they are old: Like Hong Myung-Bo, Limpar, and Herzog.
So hey, if you wanted to hire a few aging Euros that could genuinely help MLS, who would you buy? I would go with Becks, for one (Mainly because he would eventually like to play in the states).

Arena knows less about the seeding process than we do. That's pretty pathetic.
And I already emailed Jack Bell about his error. Portugal wasn't seeded, South Korea was. How can you write about soccer and constantly make stupid errors like that? He always does that.

umm
i think his point was that it's pointless to worry about
cause it doesn't matter
and re-read that... jack didn't say that portugal was seeded, he said they were eliminated in the first round

No acorn for you.
Who remembers who was seeded No. 1 in our group in South Korea?" (It was Portugal.) "
The article also contains this.
"That's between Bob and me. But I won't be around long enough to bring in a whole lot of people.
I don't know how careful Bruce was being with his words, but he did NOT say, there won't be alot of time. He said he won't be around long enough. First hint that he's leaving after Germany.

i was imagining that was pulled from arena (more so arena's humor and passing on that it doesn't matter who is seeded... cause it doesn't)... not a quote and thus the "( )"
and he cleared it up with this:
France and Argentina were seeded No. 1 and were eliminated in the first round, as was Portugal. There will be eight first-round groups, each with four teams.
which correctly states that portugal was eliminated... while not stating they were a one seed

I think everyone already knows that BA doesn't care about seeding. So why would he spend time calculating seeding options and seeding history if he doesn't care???
"I really don't understand how they come up with the seeds. And the expectations of some people are absurd. Apparently, they are not taking their medication. Do they think we're the envy of the soccer world? We did well in 2002, but what about 1998? We were last. And in 1994 we won one game. In the list that came out for player of the year, how many Americans are on it? For the most part, the groups are always balanced. Who remembers who was seeded No. 1 in our group in South Korea?" (It was Portugal.) "What was France seeded? What was Argentina seeded?"

WC are freaky-things. One win sometimes doesn't get you out of the group stages; just two wins can somtimes get you to the quarterfinals.

I was not a big fan of Arena in the run-up to the 02 WC, but he certainly shut me down with a magnificent performance. Now I like the things he says. This is a good dose of reality. We are good, but we are not one of the top 8 in the world. A very good quote from Arena. Liking him more in this lead up does, however, make me a little nervous that we won't do as well.
And p.s., JAck Bell reads the comments on big soccer.

arena not knowing the exact process of seeds is almost irrelevant...
i"m sure he's got enough keeping in touch with his player pool, club committments and the status of the 23 final pool...
also, who knows if arena wasn't a bit tongue in cheek there...
wanting usa under the radar, not being a seed....
youy have a target on your back, that is being a number 1 seed, and the other guy might just prepare a little bit more comprehensively....
still arena's comment on the adu matter shows he's got many things in check, and those he deems irrelevant, he just treats dismissively.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if Arena were around here, somewhere, posting all kinds of outrageous sh!t about the USMNT. If I were him and had spare time, I'd do that once or twice just for shits and giggles (since Bruce seems to be a giggler, anyway).
