There are the usual joke names and ridiculous exclusions. Good luck to our guys though.

Yeah, but he barely beat out Liam Miller for the last spot.

David Beckham, Luis Figo, Luis Garcia, Michael Owen, Raul, Roberto Carlos, David Trezeguet, Zinedine Zidane (and some others)... yet no Damien Duff =

Shame, if Duffer were a South American named 'Duffaldinho' he would be in there even if he had a poor season.

Duffaldinho?.. ...

Well one omission that I missed at first - and am staggered by, is Heinze. And he is a South American!

I was just looking back through the list of nominees to see how many were better than Gabby. I can't believe he didn't get a nom...

Ronny deserves it IMHO. But that is ridiculous Rooney not up there. And Gerard up there ahead of him? Only and very very only because of the CL I am assuming..

What would you expect? That the French would favour an English based player over A spanish based one. Come on, they have lost two world wars, that hurts

But seriously, great choice, he may not be the most efficient player in the world, but he sure is fun to watch and efficient enough to be dominating every time he plays. that's gotta count for something... :D

Rooney only came 25th, I heard. The award loses all credibilty when Gerrard finishes above Henry & Shevchenko for their last 11-12 months' form.

yeah, Gerrard shouldn't be there and Rooney should be higher as well. But he's not a Ballon d'Or winner yet, he'll win it in a couple of years though. He'll be higher next year, we all know that. But you also have to win something to be someone in football, Scheva, Henry have in common that they won nothing of significance last year(don't even try to tell me that the FA Cup was a win for Arsenal), Dinho, Lamps and Gerrard did.

Edit: And as a man with slightly split allegiances or at least a hint of national pride that Zlatan came in at a respectable 8:th place, ahead of the likes of Kaka, Eto'o and Terry. Ok, it may not be that big of a surprise, but having followed him since he was 17 and played in the swedish second division it's always fun when he does well. (Especially whith the WC coming up and then we'll kick your english ass as we always do :D(and everyone elses as well, but that has not yet become a habit of ours) )
