Sorry, I'm relatively new to the Stats Forum so I apologize if this has been covered in another topic and the site Match Analysis is down for a relaunch so I don't know what kind of work they are doing.
What kind of new counting stats can be compiled for soccer?
In my opinion, the first step would to be define the objective occurences take place in a given match. After that the correlation to scoring could possibly be determined (if there is any)
In example, my suggestion
Pass Connection
A binary compulation of a players' passes that connect to a teamate. 0 for no connection, 1 for connecton. Recorded for Individiuals.
PROS:
Fairly objective. Connection results in teammate holding possesion.
CONS:
Teammate could miss connection via bad touch, etc.
Feel free to blast me for the ignorance of this, or add/contribute.
